If you want to get technical, that is just a wifi only iPad where Verizon packages in a MiFi hotspot. So technically, even the iPad sold at Verizon doesn't work on the Verizon network without an extra device to help it out.

Am I the only one that has no desire to go to 4g? I mean, I like the speed, but the rumored(not sure if it is confirmed) prices are ridiculous..and it is a capped data plan.

But hold off on your upgrade for a bit and wait to see what the dates/prices are going to be for the 4g phones.

Curious on your opinion of the Samsung phone(Fascinate). It looks like it has great reviews and the display is supposed to be the best out right now.

Not a huge fan of the Galaxy lineup. And while the screen is nice indoors, the AMOLED, Super AMOLED, and (soon to be) Super AMOLED Plus screens wash out really bad in the sun. On top of that, the screen draws a ton of power, and sucks up a lot of the battery life.

Other than that, I think they are decent phones.

The fascinate is a little bit slower switching screens and has a slight tendency to lock up or freeze for a couple seconds. Screen is beautiful though

Well, and if you're connected to Wifi (and many have it at home and work) I believe you can do precisely that.

I have one of the original Incredibles with the AMOLED screen(they since switched to something else..I think) and it washes out badly in direct sunlight. It is damn near impossible to see anything.

Also, the new Galaxy Tab phone for Tmobile is supposed to be the best android out right now.

The rumored prices are pretty clueless. A lot of those came from the LTE mobile broadband plans which have always been much higher, but the fact is the prices were UNCHANGED (and in a few cases, went down a little). Yes, LTE will definitely be capped but it remains to be seen if that cap will materially affect you.

Ya, there's a reason HTC went away from AMOLED screens.

What phone are you talking about at T-Mobile? The Galaxy Tab isn't a phone, it's a tablet. And a lot of employees of Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint that I've talked to have said that it blows bad! It lags really bad, and it's running Android 2.2, which is designed for phones. So a lot of apps and programs look really stretched out on the screen.

Do you mean the MyTouch 4g? It's a really good phone. Definitely the best available at T-Mobile. But I don't think it's the best Android phone out right now.

True that. I completely forgot about that weird dongle thing. Regardless, iPads are stupid anyways.

From all reports, the main reason was supply. The SLCD screens HTC now use in their phone have their pros and cons. They are not that much better than AMOLED screens.

For anyone looking at Samsung phones (other than Nexus S), if you want timely updates, good luck. They are not as bad as Sony but Samsung still takes forever to release updates and source code.

Trust me I know people that have Droids because they were on Verizon and not AT&T that have wanted Iphones too! To each their own.

More customizable. It's an overall more capable phone. Better web browsing. Widgets. And you don't have Apple judging which apps are suitable for you.

Either is AT&T's. Iphone 4g means 4th generation.

I don't know if you can say one is better than the other. Both have become solid mobile operating systems and will push each other to polish up and add more features. Google and Apple are not afraid of each other.

It comes down to your needs. There will be some who buy because of the logo on the back of the phone but to each his own.

For me, the google apps integration, exchange push support and openness of Android has my vote. I also don't like to be tied to itunes.

No LTE IPhone until 2012, probably June'12. Not that it matters because if you're signing up it's a 2-yr contract and the new policy is strictly no early upgrades.

Bummer? Not really. Dave Dravecky can count on his left hand the number of times I've said, "Crap! I don't want to have to call you back, but I just CAN'T wait for a couple minutes to check this email! WHAT TO DO?????"

I always laugh at the commercials that actually advertise this. Either:
(a) AT&T's marketing team sucks balls for coming up with such a weak selling point, or
(b) it's the best thing they had to go on in terms of pitching their network.

The answer, in fact, is (a). AT&T's network, though less reliable, has better data speed from what I've seen. MUCH better selling point!
Jawbreaker;634347 wrote:Check for new email while on a call? I have never wanted to do that. It is neither a pro or a con for me.
Yeah, if someone told me I could do that, I'd pretty much not care and forget I could do it anyway.
sherm03;634396 wrote:So the iPhone will actually have to go on specs...and it doesn't measure up to the other phones very well.
And that was being nice.
dlazz;634563 wrote:Jargon aside, it's hilarious to me that people complain and cite the "no-data-while-on-a-phone-call" argument when differentiating between AT&T/Verizon. Like it really matters THAT much.
Yeah, I've never met a soul who has actually cared about that.
dlazz;634651 wrote:True that. I completely forgot about that weird dongle thing. Regardless, iPads are stupid anyways.
Functionally, they're really no different than any of the old notebooks with the screens that folded down and were touch screen.

Oh, except that it's made by Apple, so it's chic. Quick! Everyone show your Apple envy face!

Forgot Flash capable browsers, better call quality (trying to hear someone on an iPhone is unbearable), and a battery that can be replaced quickly and easily by the user.

I'd be curious what advantages the iPhone has over something like the Incredible or X.
Fab1b;634727 wrote:Either is AT&T's. Iphone 4g means 4th generation.
I love aghast he was at learning "Verizon's iPhone will NOT be 4G," when no iPhone has ever been 4G.
dlazz;634799 wrote:The post immediately above yours pretty much covers it.

I've always been a fan of BlackBerry in the past (the pre-Droid past), but two big inconveniences have always been the lack of Flash and the lack of apps (historically). I was initially intrigued by the iPhone, but I had forgotten all the things I'd hated when I had one. This thread reminded me.
