I was reading Zipsnation..and they were talking about the Cam Newton investigation. One of the guys reads the LSU forum I guess, and here's what he had to say:

"I've continued to follow on a daily basis the thread in the LSU sports forum about the Alabama gambling/political corruption/Auburn football/Cam Newton FBI investigation. This is no small challenge, as the thread is now over 11,000 posts and contains a massive amount of data. Much is speculation, but there is also a lot of damning evidence piling up.

The New York Times has reportedly had several investigative reporters in Alabama, and is close to breaking a big story. There's speculation that the scope of the investigation is huge, with Cam Newton and Auburn football being only a tiny part of it. The whole thing is deadly serious. Several Alabama political operatives loosely connected to the case have met violent deaths in the past year, including two who allegedly died of "self-inflicted" gunshots to the head and one who was found at the bottom of a golf course pond encased in a large plastic bag (kinda hard to do that last one all by yourself).

There's no way I could even begin to cover all the crap that is getting ready to hit the fan. This is going to be a huge national news story. But I thought some of you might be interested in seeing how easy it would be for a wealthy booster who owns gambling casinos to arrange to have football players or corrupt politicians paid off by rigging gambling machines to pay off jackpots when the players or politicians played those machines.

Below is a link to a Birmingham News story that ran in March about how a local politician was likely paid off by the owner of a gambling casino. A check of Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford's 2006, 2007 and 2008 Alabama state tax filings shows that the good Mayor claimed earnings of $1.5 million from winning 555 (that's five hundred and fifty five) jackpots at one casino. Go figure the odds on that one."

There was a thread on tigerdroppings I believe that had a lot of information. I imagine that once the FBI is done down there, this whole thing will blow up, may be years down the line though. Thing is, the NCAA doesn't have power of subpoena, so they could only investigate the financial documents provided to them by the Newtons, which didn't include the church financials. Not surprising since the church was about to be lost, then was suddenly saved. This isn't over, not by a long shot.

I fully expect the hammer to come down on Cam Newton a month or so after the BCS Championship game is over with. You can see it coming. With that being said, the spiel in the OP sounds like complete BS. I'm not sure I believe any of that. I need a little more corroboration here; a blog and some message board musings from a LSU fan board isn't enough

This is what I think. It would have been a huge mess and possibly TCU playing for a championship if the hammer would have been brought down in November. I remember things coming out about Reggie Bush when he was still in school, but there was too much at stake for CFB for the NCAA to bring the hammer down at the time.

Yeah it would have caused a mess. Newton being ineligible would have meant he was ineligible during their games, which would have caused them to forfeit all of their games, which would have caused for an undefeated Oregon team set to play a winless (and Cam Newton-less) team for the championship. Which would have obviously led to a huge mess in which people would have debated on whether Wisky, TCU, or Stanford should have been in the title.

The NCAA came out, squashed the story for the time being... they will then get their sexy matchup with no huddle, BCS conference teams, they'll get their ratings, and $$$ and then after the janitors start cleaning up the mess at University of Phoenix Stadium, the NCAA will drop the hammer.

I've always thought of Auburn as the type of school that would rather play in the championship game and get the season vacated two years down the road than be 9-3 and playing in the Outback Bowl.

No proof or knowledge, just my opinion and impression.

I was told (by someone that would definitely know) that the FBI wouldn't be involved if this were only about some possible recruiting violations. I think we'll find out that the Newtons got caught in the middle of something much larger.

There is definitely more to this than meets the eye and is by no means over (now I don't think it's as wild as what is in the OP's post), I think a few years down the line like USC, Auburn will be vacating this title if they win and Cam will be giving back his heisman.
