He put out a much stronger denial than Stoops did. "I want to stay here. I love it here. My family loves it here."

Stoops had the chance to say those things...but he didn't.

This is true and makes me wonder if the poster who says Stopps is going to be the next head is going to be correct with their info.

At this point in time it would appear that stoops is taking a step back going to Notre Dame if he does.

That is not to say he could not put them back up where they were at one time.

I don't feel either of them is dismissing the idea. Seems like Stoops tried to play with words and gave a half-ass commitment to Oklahoma and in the most recent Kelly article (linked above), he just seemed to avoid the topic. Kelly also just did the same thing a few years ago. It wouldn't be "uncomfortable" if he wasn't thinking about it.

Yeah it seems like this could turn into the last time they tried to hire a coach. (Outkicking their coverage and ending up with a third or 4th choice)

I really believe that Stoops and Meyer are the number one targtes, whether they get one of them (porbably Stoops) is another thing. Kelly will be their choice if those guys say no which is a very good third choice IMO. Don't kid yourselves, Brian Kelly would kill for the HC job at ND.

There is no way Meyer is leaving Florida.... I don't know why ND fans think he is still a target. Why wouldn't they want Boisie State's coach or TCU's coach and make them their number one target. TCU's coach has had plenty of good defenses without top flight recruits... he should be their number one target, they need to play defense.

Sorry, I didn't read the article. Kelly did a radio interview this morning on WEBN in Cincinnati where he clearly stated the quote I had above. I can't find anything online for it, but I will post it when I find it. It was much more of a denial than in that presser, and much more of a denial than stoops gave.

If in fact Notre Dame does call Kelly and he turns them down, it speaks volumes to how far Notre Dame has fallen.

And to think Meyer leaves Florida is crazy. I don't get why he keeps getting mentioned.

Yeah, I read that he said something like that last week, too. But he also alluded to making decisions after the season and the article mentions how his stay in Cincy depends a lot on the upgrades/expectations he has for the program that someone else controls. I just think its like anyone, he may fully believe he is staying at this moment, but the offer hasn't been made yet.

Meyer will most probably stay at Florida but it's Swarbrick's responsibility to atleast approach him about the job. Also, you're not hearing Boise St. HC Peterson mentioned as a candidate because he is rumored to be a scienctologist and that won't fly at ND.

Meyer is definitely a pipe dream, but it doesn't hurt to at least approach him with an offer or guage his interest.

Kelly would take the job in a heart beat if it was offered. But it is looking less and less likely that the offer is forthcoming unless Notre Dame gets deep into their list of candidates

Doesn't Meyer have an out-clause for Notre Dame and Ohio State in his contract? I thought I have heard that before, but it could be a rumor.

No, he has a certain time period in which he can give proper notice, talk with and leave for any other school with no penalty. I don't feel like looking for it now, but his contract is available online.

At Utah, he had an "out" for Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Michigan.

Do you have to be Catholic to coach at Notre Dame?

I can't find a link at the moment. It was a radio interview on WEBN, a local rock station here in Cincy done this morning. If I find a link, I'll post it.

just heard on WLW700 out of Cinci that Kelly signed an extension with Cincinnati--so much for the ND job---I'm really starting to believe it's Stoops now

Yeah I was going to say, if you think the guy gives you the best chance to win, who cares what religion he is? I'm not trying to be doosh but Notre Dame has to get this next hire right.

Mr. Pat. Lou Holtz is ultra-Catholic. I know him well. He is very much a born Catholic. He wnet to St. Al's in Liverpool area. He would have gone to a Catholic High School had there been one in Liverpool after his dad moved the family for work after leaving Follansbe Wv.

I know this to be very acurate.
