Starting DT. Not great, but a good quality starter. Not much of a pass rusher.

on bunkley in cleveland

This is what I think the "plan" is for the next few years:

2011: Develop our young guys and get them more starts under their belts, shoot for a .500 record.
2012: Draft at least 4-5 starters and hope the young guys pick up the system fast and shoot for 10 wins.
2013: Draft at least 2 starters and sign a few big time veteran free agents and win the afc north.

Are #Browns talking about possible trade w/ Rams for G John Greco because of E. Steinbach's knee? @jthom1 says talks may b underway.

I guess this means they don't like Lavuo? Or would this guy play LG?

Not necessarily the case. My impression is that Holmgren/Heckert/Shurmur like big guards so it's not Lauvao. Light in the pants Steinbach could be on his way out. This smells of Shurmur because he would have serious familiarity with this kid. Maybe Shurmur thinks he's ready to take the next step (starter) or he's just good depth.

Either way I wouldn't be upset dealing for him. I would like to keep our draft picks though. Late night for you huh? Its almost 10! :)

no joke..you got to spend the money anyways...bring somebody in who will make an impact. Maybe the Browns will get lucky and land Osi...

^^ Don't count on it...we will offer him some decent money and he will ask for a little more and we tell him no, so another team comes in and takes him. Hope I'm wrong though!

In theory, this would be nice and we'd ALL love to see it but it's highly unlikely it happens. I see something more like the plan OQB posted above. They are going to likely roll with younger guys and try to fill the roster from the bottom (depth) up.

seems to be the routine so far. Got to be pretty discouraging for Browns fans.

I can see the fans side of it being frustrated we aren't throwing millions of dollars out to a veteran guy who can help us out in the holes we have....

From the Front office point of view though, why spend all that money for an older guy, when in all honesty we won't be better than a .500 team. We have to Build through the draft and THEN, when we have stability at Head Coach and QB for 2-3 years, and we are running the same system on offense and defense we know what we need to go out and get to play for a super bowl....which is ALL of our goals as fans and decision makers in the Browns organization. It would've been nice to get a Ray Edwards or Osi but lets be real.....they are not going to be the deciding factor of making the playoffs or not this year.

just my 2 cents....

What have the Browns front office been doing for the past 10 years? I agree, that building in the draft, not overspending, getting younger guys, etc are all ideal, but just how long is it going to take for the Browns to build a team? And I agree they wont be the deciding factor, this year. But a couple years down the road...they could make a difference when the team is ready to compete

This is only the 2nd year for this FO. Hopefully these guys have it figured out.

The best use of free agency is when you are a Jets or Patriots and are 1-2 players away.

As much as I'd love to see them make a "splash" I don't see it coming. Now 2-3 years down the road when they are on the cusp, I could see Heckert tossing some money at a few studs. Plus, if the team IS on the cusp, it's going to be more palatable to come here.

THe difference is we FINALLY have a President and GM that actually knows how to build a team through the draft and we are seeing the first stage of it now.....

For your second point....the veteran guys we would sign would be nearing the end of their careers when we would actually be ready to make a run for the lombardi trophy...so do you honestly think a 35 year old DE is going to make a difference?
