Heard on ESPN (wasn't paying attention to who) that this was a like like approaching signing day in college . . . you're going to hear of a lot of guys giving their "commitment" to a team, but until they sign their name nothing is for sure.

Somebody posted a "wish list" over on the OBR and it was pretty realistic. Not all of the Asomugha, Vincent Jackson, etc crap that many throw out there.

I read a report this morning that he was an Eagle. Hmm, remember when it was reported that LCB signed with the Eagles? Maybe its another situation like that.

Probably the thought process for Heckert/Holmgren/Shurmur. With the abbreviated, slam, bam, thank you ma'am free agency, they may have to strike where the familiarity is first. I've always hated that with the Crennel (90 year old Willie McGinest) and Mangini (90 year old EVERY former Jet) regimes. Hopefully it works out better this time.

We've had him once and either cut him or let him walk right before the Lecharles Bentley/revolving door of centers fiasco.

Sounds like the Cowboys have major wood for Abe Elam. He was the first free agent safety they called this morning. Apparently like him more than Michael Huff.

Sounds like Charger S, Eric Weddle is linked to the Browns. Would love to have this guy opposite of Ward.

Also read where the Eagles will NOT re-sign any of their UFA's so it sounds like Herkert could have a field day there. Possibilities include LB Stewart Bradley, S Quentin Mikell and an improbable return of The Ghost.

WKNR has a new nightly Browns show at 6pm. Holmgren was the guest on yesterday's first show. When the host asked Holmgren areas they'd likely target in FA his first answer was "obvious areas of need are wide receiver." This goes completely against what the Browns have been saying. Keep an eye on the WR's like Malcolm Floyd, Lance Moore, Legedu Naanee & James Jones.

Regarding my earlier comment about Nick Barnett, scratch that. If/when this team goes after free agents, think "young guys." This team is trying to get VERY young, in a hurry.

And finally, according to Goldhammer, the Browns will NOT be active in FA and Ahytba Rubin had Chipotle for dinner. Also sounds like Greg Little will be wearing the #15 this per his Twitter

EDIT: Mikell is signing with the Rams...on to Weddle or Whitner @ FS

Free Agency News and Notes

By OBR Staff

Posted Jul 26, 2011

The OBR’s Lane Adkins relays exclusive free agency news.

As the NFL’s rapid fire version of free agency heats up, the OBR’s Lane Adkins is keeping up with the fray. Here’s what Lane has heard.

At the present, it appears the Browns have targeted two defensive linemen, a defensive back and an offensive lineman in their initial free agent player fury. Names will hopefully soon follow.

The wide receiver position is one the organization has debated in adding a veteran free agent. Presently, the Browns are putting feelers out regarding potential targets. Sources say that both Vincent Jackson and Terrell Owens are out of the question.

As for the defense – throughout the offseason, the Browns have evaluated and ultimately determined that any veterans who can play at a high level would be beneficial to defensive coordinator Dick Jauron’s scheme.

Buffalo safety Donte Whitner could be one of these types of players. According to sources, Whitner would love to join the Browns and it does appear that there is mutual interest.

As for other players, the Browns are attempting to retain the services of defensive end Jayme Mitchell.

Finally, nothing official has been reported, but the Browns are planning to speak to either Jake Delhomme or his representative regarding his roster and contract status.

Heckert is on the radio now....they will sign 23 UDFA's and have talked to a load of FA's today. Won't go crazy in FA. Want to get "younger."

I think he'll fit okay. Another young guy with experience and if he actually wants to be in Cleveland, that's a plus.

Agree. Would rather have Weddle. TJ Ward is horrible in coverage...so is Whitner. Not a great recipe, imo. Weddle would be like that safety that we had, #27 can't remember his name, who took OchoStinko's head off....a QB of the defense.
