Here is a list of returning players from the Varsity/JV. Grades listed are their current status. Does not include the current freshman, as there will probably be a handful that will have an impact on the upcoming season. I have bolded the players that either started this year or that I can remember seeing playing time. I believe 9 Ifft, 15 Zahner, 32 Johnson, 52 Shalosky, 61 Jeandervin all received either conference, district or state honors.

3 Logan Maholm 10 6'0 170 WR/DB

There was 1 on this and last year's team that was a big part of the defense. Other than that, I can not recall another open enrollment player in recent memory.
How many "open enrollment" players has Big Red had the past few years?
A ton. And I say that with pride. (SCS) Steubenville City Schools have done an excellent job promoting the school system. The athletic programs promote them- selves.

Many school districts are down and having trouble with school levies and bond campaigns and maintaining their facilities. Where at Steubenville City Schools, particularly at Steubenville High School, they just finished 28.1 mil in renovations and new construction.

Two new elementary schools were built and a complete restoration of SHS was completed. It took a little over two years, but the job is now finished. The transformation of Big Red included the refurbishing of our Tech Prep labs throughout the school.

The new labs have a fresh and brighter look the ground up. New flooring, ceiling, lighting, electronics, ventilation with AC and new tech wiring has upgraded the tech prep labs to meet the student’s needs now and in many years to follow. A high school that was over sixty years old has a new look and a more suitable environment for learning.

On the 2K09 team we had 5 or 6.

1) Marcus Prather QB 10th Weirton, WV. Enrolled as a Frosh yr.
2) Jordan Meyer WR/QB/DB 11th Richmond, Oh. Enrolled as a Frosh yr.
3) Caleb Westlake DB/WR/KR 12th Richmond, Oh. Enrolled Frosh yr. Has younger brother Evan Frosh-Also Tanner, 8th grade Harding Middle school.
4) Blake Carroll LB/TE 11th Richmond, Oh. went through Harding Middle school. Brother Brandon Carroll was a 08' grad. He played 4yrs at big red. Also has a sister that plays sports as well.
5) Lucas McClurgh LB/FB 10th Burgstown, Pa- brother Kai 8th grade Harding Middle school.

So the enrollment impact is like 10. because they had brothers and sisters.
All but Marcus Prather had older brothers enroll as Freshmen and the younger children went trough Harding middle school.
YRs past;
Branko Busick Weirton, Wv
Antonio Magnone QB 2K04-Angelo Magnone DE/G 2K05'
Mike Belardine WR/DB 2K05
are some from past teams. I know it's not all of the kids. Many people see other names. but don't know the history behind the names. such as; Trey Wiggins his father played on our 82' Region Semi team.

There are many reason the above student-athletes enrolled to SCS. I'm sure football was on the mind of some. But with facilities like these it's not hard to see why open enrollment at SCS is so popular.

Ive been updated. He did suffer a broken back. He has paralysis for now but they are not saying it will be permanent!! Broken ribs as well as lacerations to his head. I expect him to embrace recovery and therapy as he did when he played football. Good Luck young man and my prayers are with you and your family...

Thx boys! Like you've said before the season doesn't count until week 13 and beyond. Hopefully we make it to week again this year. I for one am not the Dover fan who says "wait til next year" or "this years team is the best ever". I just want to beat steuby!!!

Now with all the talks about you boys joining the ECOL, maybe we'll get a shot or two each year at you.

And we'll continue to say that until we do! Then we'll look at Mooney...lol

I think you will just get one shot at us. If the rumors I hear are correct, Big Red will drop back down to Div. IV in 2011. With Dover staying in Div. III, that means we would not meet in the playoffs.

Fairwood, I think those rumors might be a little premature. From what I've been told, Harding is jammed packed right now, so there is a good chance we will stay D3. I guess we could go back to D4 after this year, then back to D3 if the current frosh and soph classes are small (which I don't know).

How often do they look at realigning the divisions? I thought it was every other year, could be wrong though.
