How about the primary focus of a school system? Dover is up there at #31 out of 811. Guess who comes in at 560/811?

Why that significant to you???? We have plenty of kids who don't care about school, don't care to learn, and don't care to graduate. There's no denying that. I didn't go to school in Steubenville and there was the same problem at my school. The school can't force kids to learn and care about school and many kids have parents who aren't requiring them to do any better so it brings the average down....

I will tell you that the kids who do want to learn have every advantage to do so and are given every means necessary. And the kids on the athletic teams, band etc. are required to meet a certain standard.

So are you trying to imply that your kids are inherently smarter, your teachers are better, or you have some new educational technology???

Get used to it Lad, I've seen it for years, when certain people can't brag about their football superiority, they almost always fall back on academics, I think we should have a forum for just academics and see how long it lasts. Zhon, if test scores and Grad rates are so inportant to you, why have you waited untiil the 279th post on this thread to bring it up?

I realize he's grasping for straws and maybe our discussion should be moved to the politcal forum if he's stupid enough to try to carry on. I know he has to understand that Steubenville and Dover are made up of different demographics and socioeconomic levels which have effect on education stats. So in effect his argument won't hold much water....

I won't deny the stats but they don't imply what he is trying to imply, whatever that may be.

Im implying that if you want to somehow compare the results of a game as some sort of reflector on a community, its residents, or school system then perhaps you may want to consider the primary job of that school system, as opposed to the results of an extra curricular activity that it provides.
As exciting as winning a game may be, and as much fun as it may be to do some lighthearted banter in the week that leads up to it (and perhaps a serving of crow in the aftermath) the fact remains that it was a game that was played for fun and has no real relevance on the rest of you lives. While the memory of winning such a game may be a good distraction to run through your head to distract you from some menial task at a less than desirable job, ultimately Id much prefer a job that I enjoy and find rewarding.
As far as implications go, I would say that test results would reflect better teachers and therefore smarter students. As far as "education technology" I would have to assume that this may reflect how the Board of Education decides to allocate their taxes and state education grants (It cant be cheap to keep an indoor practice facility heated and keep a computer lab of comodore 64s running, cuts have to be made somewhere)
But yes, I would say that education would be considered "significant" to me when it comes to a school system more so than the score of any game.

If you don't want to talk football, why are you on the football thread???? Why don't we bring crime rates, local economies, peoples personal affairs, church attendance, etc. into the talk...Then you'd win for sure.

Why don't you just grow up and if the fact that Big Red and Massillon OWN your football team makes you so angry and frustrated ,then go somewhere else beside the FOOTBALL thread, and talk about how much better your community is better than everyone elses....

I'm sure you can find some other elitists from Dover to join you...While education is significant your stats don't imply that Doverites are inherently smarter than us here. It implies that more of your kids work harder at their test scores...

It doesn't mean that vour teachers are any better, it just means that plenty of kids here don't have the expectations at home to get good grades and pass tests....how can anyone else control that????

The kids that are involved in school activities (sports, clubs, band etc) are held to a higher standard by the person heading those program, even though parents should be doing this, and it shows in their results. Many kids just drift and don't have anyone in their lives to motivate them. You can't make a CHILD learn, join a team, or get involved and many of their parents just don't care...

Steubenville is not Dover and is more inner city where you can expect test scores to deviate. If it makes you feel better that alot of kids are really misfortunate here and it shows in many areas, including education, then you win...But many of them rise above it via joining groups and teams at school where they become subject to authority in the after school hours and that improves them...

I am not the one that took the discussion away from football, but once it had been diverted, i made a comment. I did not comment on this thread any earlier as i found the whole topic absurd (even as it was started by a Dover fan) But when you decide to venture outside of the topic of football and onto the town/residents dont be surprised if you get blindsided.

I know, how ironic, when I was in medical school they came up too, also once when I was teaching a class on rocket science, they came up too, but that was only because I was telling my students about the time that Bill Gates, LeBron James, The Easter Bunny and Myself were sitting around talking about them. I went to Steubenville and have a degree...lol...I saw my parents come home each evening dirty as heck from working in the mills...I was like...FOCK that! I don't like to get dirty...

The only knock on Massillon is that they haven't won a state championship since the playoffs started. But that in no way reduces the value of their previous championships.

The only reason Big Red people don't talk about our early championships is because most of these people are too young to remember. If my father were still around, he could tell you plenty about Big Red's early championships.

I believe it. Students from Dover grow up to be the one thing everyone hates. A lawyer. Makes sense.
