I gotta agree with ccrunner on this one. Any one who doesn't see the reality from which stereotypes are derived is ignorant.

Certainly not condoning or even trying to make excuses for the kid, but I have to imagine the ref said something. The kid shoved the ref (which was wrong) and hen started walking away, then he made a "huh?" reaction, and then charged the ref. You don't just slam a ref, let alone for no reason.

He might be a good basketball player, but not much of a wrestler.

I ruin that fucking kid's life if its me. Assault charges easily filed. Fucking ridiculous piece of shit. As well as the parents who have raised a kid who would even do that. Its a god damn game.

As it is in Ohio I'm fairly certain.

actually to insinuate that because he's black that it doesnt surprise you he body slammed a referee is ridiculous. but, of course, not in your eyes. the punishment should fit the crime. assault is a severe punishment if the referee suffered no physical harm. maybe he's a little embarrassed, but not harmed.

^ Physical contact isn't even necessary for an assault charge, so whether he was harmed has nothing to do with it at all.

jesus man, its like i cant give an opinion around here. i am stating that i do not think the kid needs to be thrown in jail. i personally believe (my opinion, so your not confused again) that it would be a severe punishment. The kid obviously needs to be reprimanded, but to be thrown in jail is a fucking joke.

All I have to say is...it's about damn time someone told the ref who's boss. :D ;)

With those pipe cleaner arms of yours, unless the ref weighed 40 lbs ...

Unfortunately, video's showing this type of thuggery perpetuates the stereotype...does every black kid physically assault refs? of course not, but it seems that when this type of thing happens and it's posted on a video, it's a black kid involved. Let's get some video of white kids assaulting a person of authority so we can balance this out!!!

You may not be body slammed but your chances of being robbed are pretty good. For crying out loud people, stick your political correctness where the sun doesn't shine. Read the newspaper, listen to the news, like was stated, stereotypes are based on reality.

While CCRunner usually annoys the hell out of me, I think you are all ridiculous for ridiculing him over this. Many of us probably thought the same thing he did when we saw the TITLE OF THE THREAD. He just said it, and we didn't.

If you saw these headlines, what would you think? Be honest.

"Gang violence in (insert city)." (Black kids)
"Family lives in trailer and has meth lab." (White folk)
"Lazy man likes to smoke dope and smack hoes." (Black folk)
"CC Runners caught having gay orgy." (White kids)
"Marathon Runner Who Won Race is Skinny." (Ethiopian)

Stereotypes are what they are. It just ended up that CCRunner called a spade a spade. It's not like he came on here (if the video were of a white kid) and he said... "Wow, I figured this kid would be black, but he's not!"

So are you saying you would feel safer officiating a basketball game at Perrysburg or Bowling Green than Toledo Scott or Toledo Woodward?

Make the punishment as harsh as permitted by law. Societal hands slaps for this type of thing just serve to allow for future issues of the same type. I have no problem seeing him spend some time behind bars. If he is a true thug he can get used to that view. If he is not maybe next time he won't do something so stupid if he knows bar time may fit the crime.

Where did you come up with this assumption, given my written response?

Lot of truth in this. Let's play a game...

If you were given the title and content of this story, with no names, location or video, and had to bet $1M on whether the kid was white or black, what would your bet be?

I do find it funny though that there is no traffic on the main HS message board in FL about this. If this happened to a wrestling official it would be all over the place down here getting slammed in the media/online. Guess not in basketball! Now as a HS wrestling official I couldn't fathom this happening. First I won't hit a kid but I will damn sure protect myself. That official did the right thing but I promise you I won't let any kid "slam" me to the ground! I would have wrapped his ass up for the coppers/school admin to take out!

Your statement implied that stereotypes exist for reasons. If that is the case, I agree with you on that.

I'd rather do a Perrysburg/BG game b/c it's better (team) basketball. I reffed the Rogers/Bowsher game last year. It was no fun.

Problem is....IF they don't make the punishment for this kid's actions stiff penaltywise, it sets a really bad precedent for all these other teen athletes out there with raging hormones and built up anger issues.
