Sad. Lynch was a lifelong friend and an assistant coach to the late Terry Hoeppner and lead Indiana to their best record in 100 years. A goal that Hoeppner had set for the team and hit their goal of "play 13"

You mean like Michigan State did?

As for IU, I wonder who they will get for the job. I peaked over on a IU board and seems like a lot of them are wanting former Ball State coach Brady Hoke (along with some other guys who are on everyone's wish list).

This is a joke - Lynch had IU at least competitive the past 2 years. Yeah there were some blow-outs but there were some surprises too. Maybe this dumass AD will pick up Rodriguez when he gets the ax next month.

Bielema drove the final nail in the coffin with the 83 points. Lynch seems like a nice enough guy, but as others keep saying it is all about winning. They haven't been doing it enough, so they are giving somebody else a chance

God, Ive been calling for this to happen since the guy way hired!

He had the most talented team in IU in forever and barely made a freaking bowl game with a CAKE schedule, and got blow out versus OKST. Then 3 straight losing seasons in which a Big Ten win was as scarce as water in a desert. He could get his team up for about 2 games a year, the rest? Forget about it.

BTW, IU Athletic Director is bringing on good friends Tony Dungy and Bill Polian to help him with the next hire.

It will be Harbaugh...Book it! His father, sister and brother in law all live in Bloomington. I know he wants to coach with his brother-in-law (Tom Crean) :D:D:D

IU's winning percentage over the past 60 years has been .32 and Lynch's was .38. The best was .47. I know that people want improvement, but I mean come on. You are what you are. Lynch was beating the average. He wasn't THAT bad for what IU is.

I get what you are saying (Lynch has outperformed their history) but 38% is still very poor. Completely understandable that they would want to give somebody else a try. There are a ton of bright coaches out there ready for their chance. Who would have thought Stanford would be where they are right now?

At the end of the day, if Indiana doesn't get a good coach, odds are his win percentage won't be much worse than 38%. It can't be. Low risk high reward.

This epic fail of a call was the only reason that Dick Rod didn't go 0-8 in the Big Ten that year.

Kind of a tough sitaution for Lynch, but he handled it with dignity. He held his players to a high standard, and while they became more competitive, they just could put enough W's together. I think that whoever takes that job over, with the overhaul of the facilities and everything they've done will stand a chance to turn them around if he can get some recruits in there. I don't think IU is that far away from 6-6 or 7-5s consistently

He had 3 Big Ten wins in 3 seasons. That is just abysmal. He got his wins versus the worst competition in the NCAA.

His lone good season was with Terry Heps kids. Coach Hep was turning the program around, Bill Lynch is running it back into the ground. He was a terrible HC at Ball State, and was a terrible HC at IU. I like the guy, but he isnt a good coach. IU can do much better.

Give someone a chance. This will be their 5th coach in 13 years. To expect to fire someone every 3 seasons and end up with someone better (I know about Hoeppner, but otherwise) is ridiculous.

Disagree. They got blown out way to often. Lynch got this team up for a few games a year, and thats it. Lynch cost this team some wins in the games they were actually competitive in. Not sure how some of you actually thought he was a good coach. I would guess you didnt follow their FB program all that closely and just looked at scores??? Cause Lynch isnt good.

New AD, new regime. Fred Glass didnt hire Lynch, and he gave him a chance to prove himself, and didnt. Exit Bill Lynch, enter Kevin Wilson of Oklahoma.

I would bet that he gets a chance to prove himself longer than 3 years...but to expect an AD who didnt hire a guy to keep him on is just as asinine as firing him early.

Since Fred Glass became AD:
Crean gets 10 year contract (basketball)
Freitag fired; Yeagley hired as coach (soccer)
Lynch fired; ???(Wilson)???? hired as coach (football)

In a little over a year of work, Glass is taking care of the programs that make money at Indiana. He is bringing in guys he thinks will be able to do it, and getting rid of the guys who havent and were hired by the most inept AD in IU history...
