A stretch of 3 games in 4 nights...gotta keep the momentum going. I'm going to the Wild game Saturday. Hopefully they can pull that one out.

No Sid means Jordan Staal's line with Malkin on the wing will have to step up. The defense will have to hunker down tonight too.

I heard that the refs were terrible tonight and the PK was incredible.

They have the steelers refs in the arena tonight? Great win for Montreal tonight, should really help build their confidence moving forward. Montreal has a tremendous def, shown by their ranking, esp during power plays. I guess their defense was too much to handle for the Pens with Crosby out.

I could see this game getting in the Pens head, esp since last year they lost to Montreal in the playoffs and they were only an 8th seed. Perhaps that series is still in the pens heads? DO you think there is a carry over effect to losing the playoffs? Montreal just seems like they have their number, I bet the Pen fans hope they dont see Montreal if they make the playoffs.

Crosby might miss a week with a mild concussion. His health is obviously extremely important so just rest him and make sure he's alright. They've played damn good and have some margin for error right now.

COA. C'mon dude stop trolling this thread.

-MTL's defense really isn't that great considering they have two dmen out for the year in Markov and Gorges

-Halak was the only reason why that series was close last year

^^^^Just ignore him, he makes himself look more ignorant every time he posts on this thread, he doesn't know a damn thing about hockey.

As for the game, Pens played very good considering that they not only didn't have Crosby, but Matt Cooke too. I really thought they seized the momentum when they killed back to back 5 on 3 PP's, I believe they only allowed one shot on goal in that sequence but they just couldn't score that elusive go ahead goal. Jordan Staal's return is a huge plus, what a job on the PK and I think he's teaming up well with Malkin. Tough loss but it was a shoot out, anything can and will happen in that event.

Need to step it up Saturday at home against Minnesota as the Pens are on a crucial stretch of games against some tough teams.......4 games in 5 days, 6 games in 10 days.

Montreal is 2-0 against the pens on the season, and beat them in the playoffs. I think its safe to say they have their number. I would wager the pens want to avoid facing them in the playoffs again this year.

Just read the story here http://hockey.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/8911/20110107/crosby_out_with_concussion/

After losing to Montreal again this season they need to pull it together to avoid a losing streak and losing their momentum. Without their captain not sure they can do it though.

^^^^LOL, maybe the NHL network should hire you for that expert analysis! The Pens have so much depth it's not funny, they can afford to lose Crosby for awhile and still perform at a very high level. As for the laughable comment about wanting to avoid the Habs in the playoffs, Ray Shero went out and strengthened the team because of that playoff series loss last year. Not only did he solidify the defense, he added and brought up some talent that is rearing it's head this year.

Regardless of what Don Cherry, aka COA says, the Pens are one of, if not the best teams in the league. Their PP is gaining momentum and their PK is ranked #1 in the league. Their defense is strong too, they've allowed an opponent to score more than 2 goals in a game just once since November 19th......that's ridiculous!

2-0 against the pens, cant argue with the facts. I never said the Pens were a bad team, so nice fail.

Is that the only word in your vocabulary? BTW, did I say you said they are a bad team......nice FAIL!

Most points in the league.......can't argue with the facts. I like Pittsburgh's chances against anyone in the league come playoff time!

The thing with the Habs and the Red Wings is that their systems' counter the Pens forecheck very well. Bylsma is very stubborn in the fact that he won't change tweak his system. Look at what happens when the Pens play a team that traps, they lose every time.

I disagree to a certain extent, yes they have had problems dealing with the trap in the past but they have adjusted to it better this year. Pittsburgh dumped and chased the puck a lot last night, they just couldn't put it in the net, sometimes that happens. IMO, they key thing to look at is shots on goal and the Pens have done a better job of shooting the puck against trapping teams this year. They out shot Montreal 32 to 23, that tells me they are still getting to their game.

The Wild is a team that the Pens have struggled against since. The Pens actually have a losing record at home against them so tomorrow may be a tough one.

A lot of those shots like in the playoffs were low % shots.

Once again Bylsma doesn't know how to counter act a trapping system.

I was out of town and didn't get to watch the game last night but totally agree, if there's a team who has definitely had the Pens number it's Minnesota.
