Everyone compares ovie and crosby and saying how crosby has the cup etc etc etc - give MAF to the caps instead of Jose Three or Four and Varlamov and it's probably be the Caps with the cup. Ovie and Crosby are practically identical in stats and winning a cup comes down to goal tending, and the caps never have it

WRONG!

http://espn.go.com/nhl/statistics

Crosby is second in plus/minus, Ovechkin isn't even in the top 5. Not only does Crosby lead in goals scored, assists and total points, he leads in faceoff percentage too.

www.espn.com its not difficult.

+/- isn't the end all stat in hockey anyway, but it is interesting to bring up.

Washington failed last year because they were contained and Halak was a beast, not because of their own goal tending. Do you fools even watch hockey?

Career stats douche bag - Players like this are compared by careers not single seasons.

Also Ovie is a winger and doesn't take face offs as often as crosby does - so nice fail,

Wasn't it Varlamov who got the Caps to seven games against the Pens two years ago in the playoffs? He was on fire until the Pens chased hom from goal in game seven.

Now I'm a douche because I proved you wrong? Go figure out another math formula to show you're right you dumb cocksucker!

BTW, the only career stat between these two are head to head and Cups won........guess who leads in both categories?

I'd like to see an ESPN poll of who you would rather have between the two, better yet a poll from current GMs.

I wouldn't be unanimous, but heavily favoring Crosby. Again I'm saying this as an Ovechkin fan. Crosby is better, its plain as day, he does more for his team. Better shot and pure scorer? No...Ovechkin gets the nod in that department.

Wow, internet tough guy of the week award winner right here. Congrats on being the first two time award winner, in back to back weeks no less. Truly a milestone.

Game 7 isn't the same as winning a cup. Niemi last year was the exception to rule (winning it as a rookie), it takes a goalie with a cool head, Varly obviously couldn't take the pressure of a game seven like MAF could and the caps paid for it. Thank you for proving me right in that goaltending wins championships.

Good post auto! There's no denying Ovechkin's nose for goal and his shot is legendary already but Crosby is the complete hockey player who has worked on improving every facet of his game and the stats prove it. Sid worked on his shooting and now leads the league in goals scored, he worked on feceoffs and is now the league leader in that department. The kid is driven to win, I can't say the same or Ovechkin.

Career stats according to Yahoo Sports are equal. If you Player A and Player B and listed their stats then had people pick, i bet it'd be 50/50. It's a lot closer than people think.

When did I say goaltending wasn't a key component? Typical garbage from you, making shit up as you go along!

BTW, you need to score goals and kill penalties too to win a Cup, it all goes hand in hand.

Crosby has improved, one could argue by looking at Ovechkin's stats this year that he's regressed. He leads the league in shots and only has 14 goals!

Except when you actually WATCH THEM PLAY.

There are times when I've seen Crosby fail to appear on the score sheet yet he still has a huge impact on the game and is obviously the best player on the ice. I can't say the same for Ovechkin. I've seen games where he was non existent on several occasions.

In all honesty, they are two different types of players. Some will find this funny, but when you compare what they do for their team and their own skill set, Crosby is like LeBron. He makes everyone around him better, can facilitate, score and play solid D. I can't say the same for Ovechkin.

So he regressed and still has the same career totals while being on the ice for more goals...sounds like the better player to me and is just having an off year. Caps are working on becoming a more defensive team, one reason Ovie has isn't have his spectacular goal totals (that was in HBO 24/7 before you flip your lid and tell me i'm a liar and make garbage up at random)

I'm not saying Crosby is God's gift to hockey, but if you're going to come in here and stir the pot, at least be informed and give an a well thought out reason why you think Ovi is better. Otherwise with statements like Ovi plays defense it just makes you look like more of a dumbass than we already know you are.

OK.......a league leading 180 shots and only 14 goals, yep, sounds like he's concentrating on defense. Watch the guy play, he never back checks, ever. Maybe the Caps are trying to play better defense but Ovechkin certainly isn't.

He's 6th in hits this year, checking doesn't seem to be the problem...

Both are great players. Obviously Pittsburgh fans are going to lean toward Crosby and some non-Pittsburgh fans are going to lean toward Ovi.

Melrose, Barnaby and just about everybody on Versus and NBC say that Sid is the best player in the game. They're probably just Crosby/Pens homers too so what do those analysts and former players and coaches know.
