I need to know a few things about the media in the Orlando area.

1) How many local television stations are on air in the Orlando area? (for example in cbus, it'd be 10tv news, nbc4, etc.)

2) What local radio stations broadcast sports games, if any at all? (97.3 fm in cbus broadcasts OSU games and other sports talk shows)

Basically I am in charge of starting an nfl team in Orlando, and need to know information about the local media.

Thanks for anyone who can help me out.

I call BS.

Someone in charge of starting an NFL expansion team doesn't come to the OC for his research.

Will the potential team be associated with the Disney brand? Will they have a Disney character as their mascot?

This.

Orlando would be a horrible market for the NFL anyway.

If you chose Orlando yourself, then you should get an automatic F on this project.

Florida can't support 4 NFL franchises. They can't even support the three they already have.

I would say it is a bad market for the NFL because of the proximity of other NFL franchises and off the record the league wants the next new franchise to be located in Los Angeles.

There are 3 other teams in the state of Florida. No other state has more than three teams, not even California. Jacksonville is only 137 miles away, Miami is 235, and Tampa is only 85 miles.

The Orlando metropolitan area has a population of 2,082,628, but the city-proper population is 235,860, quite small for any NFL market (except for Green Bay, of course).

The huge majority of this part of the state is composed of retirees who have moved to Florida or winter/summer in Florida, and if they are sports fans, their allegiances lie elsewhere.

As for the people coming into this part of Florida, there a much bigger attractions. Disney, Universal, etc. Hell, even the beach is only about 40 miles away.

There are several other cities which could do much better with the NFL

Los Angeles
Las Vegas
San Antonio
Portland
Norfolk/Hampton Roads area
Memphis
Oklahoma City

Just to name a few.

I'm gonna have to agree, if you picked this area you should get an F. Professional Florida sports fans are the worst in the nation. The Devil Rays couldn't sell out when they were in the pennant hunt, and the Heat couldn't sell out the first home game with the three douche bags!

I didn't pick the area myself.

We picked the top 16 TV markets that didn't have NFL teams already, and had a 16 person fantasy football league. We had to do marketing plans and shit like that for our teams. My group got Orlando-Daytona Beach market.

I was in that wretched area of the country for a while after graduating. Tons of rednecks (On par with Cincy, SE Ohio, KY, WV), drunk drivers, and nascar fans . Incorporate that in somehow.

Then decide as a group to immediately move your team to another city. Los Angeles, preferably.

Well if you were paying attention you would know that a) LA was already taken and b) we were assigned to the city so we cannot just change if we don't like the city.

No, no, I was paying attention. They can support 2 teams, and it can fit into a business plan.

You seriously think Orlando, of all places, would support an NFL team?

SMDH.

It sucks that you were assigned Orlando though, but I guess since you don't have to worry about filling the stands, none of that matters.

No i didn't say that at all. I was just curious to hear the other side of the argument since i've spent the last couple days researching why it would be a GOOD place to have a football team. Obviously I realize there is no way Orlando will ever get a football team, I just wanted to spark up some convo about why they would and why they wouldn't be.
