These things are true.
1. Most fans do not know the rules.
2. Many coaches do not know the rules.
3. There are missed calls every game.

I have seen pee wee games and I think id rather ref a high school game ..those people are nuts in the pee wee level .. Sometimes those refs are actually putting theyre health at risk...
About that Glenville game ..I find it hard to believe that they were being honest ,and I know that most guys and the overwhelming majority are honest, but you do have a few that are crooks......
About the baseball game in Columbus ..Unreal ... 18 kid that is obviously slow in the head behind the plate....He thought he was a state trooper or something ........Almost all of these guys need our respect and courtacy....But The heading of this thread says in the heading lousy calls ,so I gave you guys mine and I was pulling for Glenville.....

the guy in the field is like 80 years old but really hasnt had to make to many calls all day. he did blow a call early in the game where with 1 out and the bases loaded they hit a fly ball to right field and no one tags up and two runs score but whatever....... we are up with guys on first and second. my overall best player is on first. a ball is hit to the second baseman and it goes thru his legs....he thinks he caught it and he motions like he is throwing to second and the second baseman literally does the same like motioning he caught the ball cause he thought the ball was coming I guess. however the ball is in right field. The ump calls the guy out at second. and at first!

it was kinda funny but i really didnt care i just wanted to go home. However my player who is standing on second refuses to leave the base. he is very committed to staying there because as we all know the ball was in right field. finally i just tell him its not worth it and come on. when we get to the dugout he throws his helmet and says "bullisth" at this point the ump behind the plate ejects him!

Now the parents erupt and all heck breaks loose with everyone arguing and coming on the field. I am like i cant have this guy get ejected because he has to pitch our first league game on monday against briggs. So i get to a conference with both umps and the opposing coach and I suggest we just end the game. we all agree.....WE SHAKE HANDS WITH THE OTHER TEAM AND GO HOME.

Two weeks later i get a letter and get called to the OHSAA. I guess one of the umps goes to church with the Muscaro and told him we left the game without finishing and forfieted. I was facing a lifetime ban from coaching in OHIO. Luckily by the time i got to the meeting the OHSAA had met with the other coach and he said that we shook hands and congratulated them on winning. He also said it was a dangerous situation out there and he agreed it was a good idea to stop the game, but that wasnt what got me out of trouble. It was the fact that we shook hands.

so just a warning to coaches don't let yourself get in that situation where you dont finish a game cause of Officials.

In all seriousness, there is nothing worse than a teenage kid officiating at any level. Youth, middle school, HS.

I started this thread to let people know the refs at last fridays Alder vs Alter game were a frick'in joke. They were horrible. It was the worst officiated game many of us WHO ATTENDED THE GAME had ever seen. Why some of you are siding with those refs even though you weren't at the game is also a frick'in joke.

Littledoggie...I wonder if you look as dumb ass as your rebuttals sound.

Yep I tend to agree.. Sometimes they take it way too serious and I have seen little 6 and 7 year old kids being reffed ny teenager in basketball and the kid is calling it way to tight ....crazy chit...

I think we might have found the problem. QCB stated that the game officials know more than you, not that you don't know anything. But, I am beginning to wonder.

Not sticking up for anyone in particular, but I will for the avocation over ignorance. Your whole premise of thinking that you know more than those on the field is insane. I stated that officials make mistakes, but it is a whole lot less than you think. Why? Because you do not understand the dichotomy of the rules and how they are applied.

I am also a game official, not an umpire. Umpires are positioned near the linebackers. I work deep with the defensive backs. The referee (there is only one on the field at a time, not sure why so many of you keep making it plural) is behind the offensive backs. Although I no longer work high school, I still know the rules and mechanics as well as when I still worked at that level.

Maybe you learned something today. Maybe not.

Hopefully YOU learned to not comment on game officials that YOU did not witness officiating a game. As mentioned they were a frick'in joke.

Ump, you know as well as I do that you're fighting an uphill battle. Many, many, many people see black and white stripes and they are immediately enraged. There is really nothing we can do to change that mentality. I'm with you on this one, though.

A vague statement I made about a subject that is very broad. Plain and simple, officials aren't respected by the fans and coaches like we would like to be. However, we know that. It IS a thankless job, and we know that going in.

I believe that if found out a ref has delibertaly cheated ..WHICH WOULD BE VERY HARD TO DO .......then they should be expelled from officiating and spend a weekend in jail for sure .... Never going to happen but .....just my opinion ...

ernest..."and we know that going in". True. Didn't know you were an official, but explains why you would side with him. However, that's a job you've chosen and one you are getting paid to do. Take the heat or get out of the kitchen. It's a shame some of you can't get it right and inturn end a season for a team and it's seniors with a loss partially decided by the officials.

You failed to put those caveats on your first statement. I am pretty familiar with criminal law, you think that would fall under a felony?

The thing that gets me is this... you make it sound like we are intentionally "ruining" these kids' seasons. I'll admit all day to making mistakes... horrible mistakes. But why would I intentionally do that?

These refs very well could have had the worst game ever officiated in the history of history, but I can guarantee you that they have had better games. Some times, we make mistakes, and bad calls.... sometimes those mistakes and bad calls affect the outcome of a game... sad but true. But when you use lines like "decided by the officials," it has strong implications that we are intentionally screwing these things up.

I've had many, many nights where I have contemplated giving it up b/c I've felt that I had "screwed" a team, and made a fool of myself. Hell, I had a "blarge" last year in basketball (100% my fault) and it took me over a month to get over it. We are human... do you realize that? That is not a rhetorical question, either.
