Good trade for LA. Their draft picks are always late in the 1st round.. which sometimes equates to 2nd round talent at a guaranteed 1st round contract. Plus they shed Sasha's salary and get another serviceable big. I'm fine with this trade.

And if I'm the Knicks.. I stick with Felton over Paul. Yea it'd be nice to have CP3, but I'd rather keep Felton and use the cap space to build that team.

Idk if its really that big of an upgrade, besides another veterans presence maybe? but with that locker room idk if they really need that that much anyways. They basically made a salary dump and gave away a first round pick is all it looksl ike to me really. Unless smith gets some meaningful minutes

They didn't do this trade to get a "veteran's presence". They dumped salary and along with Bynum back and Joe Smith they can finally get fewer minutes for Gasol's whiney butt.
1st round pick means nothing to the Lakers.

I'm surprised Joe Beast's knees haven't literally exploded yet a la negroplasty.

That said I personally think next years draft class is going to be incredibly weak, so I really don't think the Lakers gave anything up here.

FWIW...

Looks like the Mayo trade rumors were just that, rumors.
There were reports Monday that Memphis is shopping O.J. Mayo and Hasheem Thabeet, however Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley said those rumors are not true.

"We are not trying to trade O.J. or Hasheem," Heisley told The Commercial-Appeal. "We haven't had any conversations about them, and I should know because I'm the one making the decisions."

"There's really nothing to say," general manager Chris Wallace added. "I don't have anything working right now."

Head coach Lionel Hollins believes Mayo's name has been brought up because the third-year guard is coming off the bench.

"A lot of people have speculated that he's going to be traded because he's not starting," Hollins said. "That's the nature of the media beast."

Just because a FO guy says it doesn't mean its not true. Granted in this case I would think it is, but as a rule that wouldn't rule out the possibility that the team is shopping a player.

As for Paul, I get what you are saying in that they don't need him. But they are not a championship contender with the current roster. They are a playoff team and an early out. Maybe New York is happy with the progress, but eventually they will want them to take that next step.

I think Paul makes them a championship contender.

With that said, if they can get an elite 2 guard, maybe that is a better move. I'm not saying that Felton isn't good enough to be a starting PG on a championship team, because he is. But they need to upgrade that roster and if Paul is available, he is a way to do it.

But yes, with Carmelo, maybe Paul isn't as much of a need as a 1 or a 5.

...which is why they want Melo.

A core of Melo, Amare, Felton, and Gallinari could be pretty intriguing

Melo, Amare, Felton and Galinari(assuming they dont have to get rid of him to get Melo) is a damn nice core

Rebounders and hustle guys are a dime a dozen... Unless you are the Cavs and then you wildly overpay them with a huge extension

You sure you dont want to talk about baseball here compare the two sports? Perhaps relate Varejao to Charlie Hustle?

I would if we were discussing the performance of a professional sports league. Obviously when talking about their performance, it only makes sense to see how they measure up against their peers.

According to some they are worth every penny, even at 7 million.

Celtics started out trying to guard Amare with some stiff named Erden. He has 11 points in the first 5 minutes. Erden is benched.

Is it possible that my Knicks are on their way back to being relevant? Winning a ninth game in a row with that ninth win coming over Boston would be awesome. I hope they can keep this up.

I really hate this saying...

But it would be GREAT for the NBA to have NY relevant again.

Watching the Lakers/Pacers game, I notice something very strange...

Jeff Foster is STILL on the Pacers roster. This absolutely blew my mind.

Watching the Bos/NY game because I can't get the Cavs game here. Its probably one of the more entertaining games I have seen all season. Wilson Chandler has played great thus far, I just like his game.

WOW! Absolutely awful foul by Paul Pierce on Nate Robinson at the end of the 3rd QT. How you foul on a half court shot...smh...
