True. However, it should be noted that they have to recruit in order to maintain their admissions numbers. All private schools recruit students to attend their schools. Why it's even questioned I simply don't understand.

I dont know all the fine print with the laws . Linsly WVA is a military academy and has had some outstanding football teams throughout the years it cannot participate in the WVA playoffs. Wheeling Central a single A team from the same town has in recent past had the best teams in all of WVA and they are known to get people as far away as Washington PA . I dont understand that . In Ohio people get tiffed because some of these guys that go to certain private schools get a free ride and some of them turn out to be thugs Catholic schools in a bigger city or metro area can pilfer several districts without any backlash what so ever . Now if one kid crosses the district line in a public school zone and he contributes to another school he is labled a recruit and bad feelings and acusations arise . It is a free pass for the teams we all know and have come to love and it is a major scrutiny on open enrollment kids who in 99.9% of the time are not even recruited . They just decided to change schools for other reasons are still labled recruits . Ofcourse this only applies when a kid goes and plays football for a better team .,and it probably didnt have anything to do with football. Double standards and double talk . I know the truth

I am not familiar with this academy but it is not unheard of for military academies to have 5th year high school students. In addition it is not uncommon for them to have out of State students. In the State of Ohio I believe that would make such a team ineligible to compete in any State tournaments.

Kettering Alter is very good year end and year out. Good coaches or good recruiters? Both? What do you think? Or just no recruitment whatsoever?

Not just Catholic schools. Private schools in general. Even a certain public school around here has been recruiting. It happens everywhere.

I guess it all depends on what you consider "recruiting". Does "recruiting" strictly mean the school sending out a letter to a child asking that kid to enroll at a certain school? Or is recruiting the players, fans, and coaches of a school doing things to try to "woo" a kid to come to their school to play athletics? If it's the latter, then a local public school is, in fact, guilty. But again, it seems to happen everywhere. When and how could the OHSAA crack down? It's a rule that is hard to enforce.

I wasn't talking about the person who moved. I was referencing a few different situation with different kids. But like you said, it happens everywhere. I'm sick and tired of beating the dead horse, too, but I came on this thread hoping to just get a definition of what "recruiting" means when being referred to in this context. What specific, tangible acts are people referring to when they mention high schools "recruiting" other high schools' athletes?

Yeah and that is a fair question to be asking...because it isn't really defined and has a lot of gray areas.

^^^OrrvilleQB....plain and simple...if you don't like the topic then don't get on the thread. You bring ZERO substance to it. Constantly talking about beating a dead horse? That is exactly what you're doing. Don't you have homework to do?

I think the out of state thing applies to Linsly . How Wheeling Central gets to do it I just dont know . Private schools in the Cinci metro area get kids from 3 states , Academies for some reason are inelligble for state participation . Its a double standard . Either let all schools openly recruit or you need two seperate playoff systems as they have in New Jersey and Texas .

I am sick of hearing this nonsense. For Ursuline, all of the schools in their "Diocesan District" draw from the same kids. It is not like Ursuline goes out to the suburbs and picks the best players. All of the school districts below can get the same kids Ursuline get's by way of open enrollment. Hell the reason Fitch is so good this year is they are getting some great talent that would normally be going to Chaney.
Ursuline
Austintown-Fitch: Open Enrollment
Liberty: Open Enrollment
McDonald: Open Enrollment
Mineral Ridge: Open Enrollment
Girard: Open Enrollment
Hubbard: Open Enrollment

Not THE reason, but it is a factor. I should have rephrased my statement. Coaching is the biggest reason Fitch is where they are.

Rayen won't have many good seasons coming up. But then again, Rayen closed several years ago.

Why in the world would private schools stay members of the OHSAA if this happened?

They could easily create their own governing body and determine their own playoffs rules while realizing the revenue.
