My words to those parents are this...Your lucky Coach Smith isn't still there and you have coach Slaughter who is more approachable, because Smitty would laugh in your face, tell you that your son stinks and then move him to JV to play the rest of the year regardless if he is a senior or not!

Get better or deal with it! Quit whining and let the coaches do what is best for the team!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's funny!

Coaches are gonna play who they think will help them win.....period!! I think another thing that alot of us fans don't think of is that we don't see what happens in practice......the coaches see the kids everyday in practice. They know who can do and cant do!! Parents....let the coaches coach and you cheer the team on....not just your son!! Selfish parents + selfish players = losing!! Its hard enough to win with orrvilles schedule without these issues!!
Perhaps some parents have a legitimate reason for concern. There are some players that start and play an ample amount of time and their contribution/performance is very minor. True, the coach/coaches do see the players everyday in practice, however it appears that they stick with those players despite their lackluster play. If some are not playing as a matter of discipline, why keep them on the team?

And really, is Orrville's schedule really that tough?

I think Coach Slaughter is just now finding a rotation and the guys that were playing earlier and making little contributions have found their spot... The players contributing/playing the most minutes now are those who Coach feels are the best and give us the best chance to win...period! Its not about making folks happy and it shouldn't be! Just because you played some early in the season means nothing. Sometimes you get only a few minutes to prove you belong on the floor...take advantage of it.

Let's not forget coach is a defensive minded coach....these kids know if they don't play defense, they don't play.

Maybe their "contribution" is minor in terms of points, but they play good defense, thus their playing time. Who knows.

One of the players I am referring to seemed to make the most of his time in the two games he played, aand he performed much better offense and defense then the guy he subbed for. After that, he's seen very limited action. Who said it was about making "folks" happy? And there are some that have been on the floor early in the season and are still on the floor that haven't proved it, offense or defense!

Where at did you see good defense? I saw moments of it, but it is not consistent.

Just stating what I know to be true....

In our 6 wins, we're holding teams to around 45 points.
In our 9 losses, we're allowing 60 points per game.

So it's obvious when we commit to play defense (which isn't always), it pays off.

My fault...maybe I should have said making Mommy and Daddy happy after they come in whinning about playing time. I was just saying it would make coach Slaughter's job a lot easier if he didn't have to deal with this. That being said, I think he has handled all of it very well. Certainly better than I would...LOL

Everyone has their own thoughts on who should or shouldn't be playing more...but as far as playing time, it is getting close to tourny time and Coach is finding his rotation. Those who are not playing as much now may may not see any increase in playing time but when they get a chance, they need to make the most of it and help this team win.

Why is that? Is it because of the tough schedule that Orrville has?

Don't ask me about schedule......I've never used schedule as an excuse for our 9 losses.

My point is about defense, I've banged that drum forever...you wont always have a great shooting night, but you can always play good defense.

Kids just want to score and shoot 3's.....not play defense....so it's always a tough sell for a coach.

63-44 final

Lex led 31-24 at half....outscored us 18-5 in the 3rd to lead 49-29 after 3.

When we let opponents score 60+, we're 1-9 when opponents score 55 or more against us.....0-6 when teams score more than 60 on us.

Maybe more than deciding to play defense, I think we just aren't a very good offensive team. Tonight was our 9th game on the season where we scored 55 or less.

Scored a total of 14 points COMBINED in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Was it turnovers again? Poor shooting?

OrrQb, WCAL schools aren't scared of Orrville on the hardwood and they haven't been recently, even Norwayne beat one of the state title teams. There is always a chance, in every sport come tournament time, you know that. Respect is definitely there, but never will they be scared.

By that example of 1-9, (my bad, 1-10) that it's obvious that you can't "always play good defense"!

Last night I saw good use of the JV to Varsity upgrades, that was a poor example.

Does that mean you'll have a legitimate excuse if Orrville doesn't beat any of the WCAL teams?

Right now, Northwestern and Hillsdale are better than us. Hillsdale proved it, and Northwestern has their chance tonight.

I think it's a tossup between us and Smithville right now.

for the record though, I think orrville beats northwestern tonight. The huskies have one really, really good player and a bunch of average ones. I think orrville's athleticism will limit mckean just enough to win,
