Its not the starting 5, it's the finishing 5 that count. So I'm in agreement with iv, with people to play more. But there are others like Mitchell who can add something at certain times in the game. I don't care as much if we lose to Lex., but we should have all out effort against NWN. Do we have someone or a group of people to stop McKean? I'm sure people have tried the group attack on him, but do we have athletic enough people to make it work?

But the "finishing 5 that count" should be the starters. My point.

They are winning; the coach has his favorites and will continue to start the same 5. BAF -IMO- the 8 TO on Zach, 2 - 3 of them were related to passes to Winters that he lost and lead to scores for Triway. The game as whole, Winters had a 60/40 game in terms of good and bad plays. The block shoots took that over to the positive. Hopefully, he'll continue to improve.

Can't disagree that the finishers should be the starters, but its hard to make big changes every week in the starters without losing team chemistry (If we have it). By starting some people early they get their minutes in and give team leadership etc. and play the best players for the situation at the end of the game ( be it foul shooters, 3 pt. people, ball control).

Flash, surprisingly, not many have tried a group attack. Very surprisng. Not saying Brennan couldn't handle one, but most teams have just tried shutting down the other guys, becuase most likely he will get his 20, regardless, much like Jacob last year. When he gets in the thirties is when it's trouble. Very impressive, unlike other scorers recently, he leads the area in assists also.

I say put Drew on him....he's long enough and athletic enough to stay with him.

Not saying he'd shut him down, but I'd be confident in him pestering McKean a little.

Now if only Coach Slaughter didn't have to deal with parents coming to him after games and at practice to whine about "little Johnny" (no pun intented towards myself) not getting enough playing time then he could focus more on being a coach and not a mediator of playing time/making people happy!

My words to those parents are this...Your lucky Coach Smith isn't still there and you have coach Slaughter who is more approachable, because Smitty would laugh in your face, tell you that your son stinks and then move him to JV to play the rest of the year regardless if he is a senior or not!

Get better or deal with it! Quit whining and let the coaches do what is best for the team!

If the refs let them play Orrville will have the advantage. If they call it close McKeens advantage...Im pretty sure he has more then twice as many free throws as anyone else in the county according to the daily record. 22 just last game....Why do refs always protect the little guys..It seems like our bigs have to be mugged and beaten to draw a foul...

agree oldrider......alot of parents think they're kids are the best. i sit near a couple parents who do nothing but complain about they're sons not playing enough.....they are'nt playing because they are not that good!!! Coaches are gonna play who they think will help them win.....period!! I think another thing that alot of us fans don't think of is that we don't see what happens in practice......the coaches see the kids everyday in practice. They know who can do and cant do!! Parents....let the coaches coach and you cheer the team on....not just your son!! Selfish parents + selfish players = losing!! Its hard enough to win with orrvilles schedule without these issues!!

I agree, last year we had the best at each position and then substituted 2-3 to change the tempo. Now everyone looks about the same, on any given opportunity someone may look better then not as good. I agree, let the coaches choose and we'll second guess them. LOL. AS for Mc Kean I'd try Brenner, Landis, and even Pirman with help. 1-3-1 zone with a tall guy out front like Pirman or Neer that made sure McKean didn't get off an uncontested shot. The problem may be fouls when he drives, but I'd try not to foul him on drives and make him make the difficult layup over tall people.

I really like that idea of sticking Brenner on McKean...although Drew isn't the best basketball player, he is a great athlete who can can stay with him while also having height and contesting shots.

Flash....Would we play a zone against a WCAL team? Question of the day haha

Is the game with McKean this Friday at home or away?

Old Rider,
That should get the juices flowing....maybe we'll see a new member or two chime in on this topic in the next few days.

Hopefully they all join the OC and come here to voice their moaning/whining so that the coaches can get back to doing their job and not have to deal with this crap!

Being told that your not very good and there are some underclassmen that are better can be hard to take...apparently for the "entire" family.

I can verify what Old Rider had to say about Smitty on this situation. I have seen a whole lotta changes on that business in all my years of teaching and coaching. In fact, in the mid-80's, even Smitty lightened up on it....to go with the changing times. Face it: today parents use their right of speaking up for their kids. I agree with that, somewhat. But I am "old school", too...and when I was young and playing sports, parents pretty much shut their mouths and accepted it. It's 2011 and this is how it is today and coaches know this and have to go with it. No wonder it's so hard to find anyone to coach in this day. It's a great part of why I got out of it 20 some years ago!

Just look at the situation at Richmond Hts., 15-0 and the players won't play for the coach and the parents write a letter demanding he resign. Granted we don't know the whole story but at 15-0 the coach must have been doing something right, but now parents and players are grumbling. What would players and parents be doing here if Sly would have a season like this one last year in his first year. The parents are one of the reasons I sit in general admission across the floor and away from most of them.

^^There's some accusations in that case that, if true, should result in that coach getting fired. 15-0 or not.

You have to ask yourself if youre playing for the name on the front of the jersey, or the one on the back (if we had names on the back of our jerseys).

Exactly....who would willingly sign up for this? It's all about "win-win-win"....but if it's not done with the "right players" you get a line of parents outside your office.

What a headache. I know Sly and every coach knows what they sign up for, but he's been on the go as a coach since summertime. He's a husband and a father of young kids. Has to be quite a sacrifice to basically give up every weekend (and most weeknights) with your family for the last 8 or 9 months.

Is it any wonder that when most coaches give it up, it's to spend more time with their family?

I have no problem with Brenner on Mckeen but the others need to be aware also because they run Mckeen off several picks and screens to get him open. Others need to bang him some going thru those picks, (show a little football mentallity when) hedge the screens so defender can get thru quickly or if you see him coming step out in front of him and possibly pick up a charged.

Richmond Heights coach was relieved of his duties for the rest of the season. Not fired. Must go through sensitivity training before he can coach again.

Absolutely! The football team has always had that "swag" that we joke about, but the basketball team last year had it and we saw the result. I don't see that same attitude in the players as I did last year.

We need to get our "basketball swag" back.
