We all agree that Coach Slaughter kept too many kids, should have cut some that are playing, and he knows this. He WON'T let that happen again next year!

I think its not in his best interest to have a parent of a player sitting beside him on the bench IMHO...I think anyone could look at that and say he is playing favorites because that kids father is his assnt. Also having another father leaning against the wall by the supt and AD putting his 2 cents in doesn't help either...IMO.

Guard play...I don't know the answer, but I don't think Landis is it. (Nor does Ray, Mitchell) impress me either. We not only need a guy that doesn't turn it over, but can shoot and I dont see that with any of these guys.

Lastly, the talent level is way down and its not getting any better anytime soon. We have a few freshman that can play and some sophs now, but will they mesh together? Time will tell. This current junior class has never had much success on the hardwood as a whole and I just do not see this current soph class boosting us in the "W" column over the next couple years. Last season spoiled us, but I think what stands out the most...that senior class knew how to win and actually had some bball players who could play!

Amen Old Rider, I don't think John Wooden could make this group mesh. ( I guess we will find out who is old timers and who is youngsters, who is John Wooden)

Pete Newell?? It has to be tough on coach Landis coaching his son. I know a few of the kids last year called him coach Fundy because he always stressed the fundementals. I would hate to lose him. Since I agree with another poster that Orrville does not do a good job stressing the fundementals at a young age.

Brandon Short almost recorded a triple-double during (19 pts, 8 rebs, 6 asts) his final home game for Mt. Vernon Naz.
(this game happened two days ago, hope it's a quick enough update for everyone.)

Jake Bolyard scored 34 points (a season high for him) in Univ. of Northwestern Ohio's final regular season game.
He leads the WHAC in scoring and is 8th in the country in scoring for NAIA Div. 2 schools.

My last post was in no way a knock towards Coach Landis...I hope it didn't sound that way. I respect Coach Landis and what he has done, I just think it puts some stress on Coach Slaughter to feel like he 'has' to play someone. I have heard that he is a fundamental teacher of the game and we do not wanna lose that.

Lets face it...we are not that good and Coach Slaughter is trying anything. The only thing he hasn't done is ask Coach Alberts if we could borrow Hannah for some outside shooting/ball handling!

First Tourny game tonight for the girls should go to the District finals.

Don't forget our previous 2 head coaches both had sons play for them. You could say playing favorites to some extent but there was also talent there. Oh to have coaches sons like the Diebler's and I recall lots of coaches with sons playing such as Alberts at Wooooster and Shindewolf at Manchester. It makes the job harder but then player and coach have to work harder to make it work.

Yes, but being a Head Coach and having a son play is different than having a guy work for you who has a son playing. I think its easier to have your own son play and be a head coach because your son has to come home at night and sleep under the same roof...after a loss!

Schindlewolf, Alberts, Smitty's boys, Diebler had talent your right...were talking about the same kid right?? (Landis)?? and talent?? I wouldn't compare those father/son coach/player relationships you mentioned in the same breath as Landis, other than its father/son and it stops there.

Good posts today, and a lot of them I agree with. I think it all boils down to this:

The piece on your blog regarding 92' as one of the greatest years for area high school hoops was right on. The only thing I would have added (maybe I missed it), was the fact that it was the only year that Hiland and Orrville played...and it was a classic! Two of Ohio's greatest coaches and two hi-scoring offenses...that was a great game!

^^I should have mentioned that....game was at New Philly (i'm guessing because Hiland's gym was so small). Orrville gutted out a win that night.

That was high school basketball. What happened to the high scoring teams of the 90's? Every game...everywhere you go seems to be a slugfest/foulfest. It's not fun to watch.
