Again Oklahoma at number one is a joke. You know it and I know it. That is why you will not put your money on the line. I do not care about Auburn or LSU but I am calling out that Oklahoma at number one is a joke.

There are several teams that could be number one Oklahoma is not one of them.

Ummm...seriously? You don't get that the standings now are not the standings come January? And you don't get that the fact I don't think Oklahoma is a joke at #1 has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not I think they will lose in the future? Really?

wow really? The BCS now is not the one is January? I posted that the NOW number one ranking is wrong you argued against that.

No problem with them at #1 right now. They deserve it as much as anyone else. I think they'll lose a game in the future - that doesn't mean that they will and it doesn't change that they haven't. And so, for now, there's no reason to say they are a joke at #1 or that the system is flawed. The system has merely evaluated what teams have done up to this point, included two distinct groups of human opinions as well as computer logic and told us who sits at the top for the moment.

It's also worth noting that the BCS computers are not permitted to take margin of victory into account. If they were, you'd get very different rankings.

None of the six computer rankings used have a margin of victory element in them? Or are they removed?

The computers that the BCS uses have margin of victory removed from their algorithms. That's why Sagarin has a couple different rankings.

Which is what I remember...but then you could ask to what degree those portions of the formula weight the results. By dropping the high and low and taking the average you have what I would call a decent representation. I really find it hard to find fault with the way things are set up in the BCS.

They aren't allowed to consider the margin of victory. Most of the rankings publish a separate list, which varies quite a bit from what the BCS uses. That's partially why you see really strange computer results early in the season. It shakes out a bit more by the end.

Agreed. Outside of a playoff, the current BCS format is the most fair.

The format is fine until the final week or 2 when those doing the voting start gaming the system. (Changing their votes to benefit the conference, dropping non-AQ teams really low to prevent them from making it, dropping a team due dislike/bias)

The BCS Standings are out and here's how it breaks down...

TEAM -- Remaining key games

1. Oklahoma -- @ #11 Missouri; @ #14 Oklahoma State
2. Oregon -- @ USC; vs Washington; vs #18 Arizona; @ Oregon State
3. Boise State -- @ Nevada?!?!
4. Auburn -- vs #6 LSU; vs Georgia; @ #8 Alabama
5. TCU -- @ #9 Utah
6. LSU -- @ #4 auburn; vs #8 Alabama; @ #23 Arkansas
7. Michigan State -- @ #15 Iowa; @ Penn State
8. Alabama -- @ Tennessee; @ #6 LSU, vs #24 Mississippi State; vs #4 Auburn
9. Utah -- vs #5 TCU; @ ND; vs BYU
10. Ohio State


While our shot is bleak, there's still an outside chance. It's happened before; will lightning strike twice?!

Personally, I think Oklahoma loses at least 1 game. Not sure it will be to Missouri or Oklahoma State, but I think they lose at least 1 between Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, & Oklahoma State.

Oregon will certainly lose 1 game just like how USC always managed to lose at least 1.

Boise State, unfortunately, will probably go undefeated.

Auburn will certainly lose 1 game.

TCU, I think, will lose 1 game.

LSU will certainly lose 1 game.

Michigan State probably chokes at least one away; personally I think to Iowa.

Alabama will likely lose 1 more.

Utah will likely lose 1 game.

So... IF OSU can win out and IF Boise State or TCU can find a way to slip up, we could just see OSU sneak in thru the back-door, yet again.

At the very worst, the Buckeyes will finish in the top 5 of the BCS, if not top 3 (assuming they can win out -- which I think they have a very good shot at doing).



I do realize this is like "clenching onto the girlfriend when you just can't seem to accept... 'it's over'." :/
