I don't know where this attitude comes from. There is no legitimate sport except boxing that doesn't penalize for blows to the heads ...and that includes hockey.Maybe it comes from guys who were raised watching WWF or some shit like that. It certainly isn't old style football where guys were taught to wrap a guy up and tackle. This is getting out of hand....let's just get out the belts with flags and play flag football!
In Art's defense, he has probably worn Maxi pads, so your statement isn't entirely true. Also, I like the fact that Non tried to make the argument that Steeler fans are more knowledgeable, because they have a good team, but you have Art here that blows that theory out of the water. I honestly don't believe Art has ever said anything that pertains to the actual game of football.KR1245;525459 wrote:Hahaha. Says the guy who never put pads on in his life.

On those crossing routes, it's a natural reaction to the ball and defender simultaneously is to try and knock him out. You are trying to prevent a catch and/or jar the ball loose. It's like the baserunner plowing over the catcher in baseball.raiderbuck;525712 wrote:
I just don't see how hard it is to actually wrap up a guy instead of heading full steam into him like that. You hardly see these kinds of blows to running backs, it's always when a guy is out in the open. The defender almost always has full view of the receiver and the catch, and has time to adjust to the receiver before heading full tilt into the guy.

Haha, I got laid out playing flag football two weeks ago. I was unconscious for two minutes, am missing entire chunks of memory from the night, spent the night in the ER because they said I didn't know where I was, and still have a little bit of the black eye that came with my broken cheekbone. Flag football is far too dangerous for these athletes.OrrvilleQB;525754 wrote:This is getting out of hand....let's just get out the belts with flags and play flag football!
I mean come one, I would take the risk of getting a concussion for the money they are making.
If I recall, I don't hear any of the guys getting hit complaining saying we don't need these kind of hits in the game...IT"S FOOTBALL!

They named a rule after Hines Ward after he fucked up that punk from Cincy. They changed the rules after Kimo put Palmer out, and now they're changing the rules because James Harrison is to tough for these bottom feeders. I say instead of punishing the Steelers why dont they punish the teams that cant man up.
Well I don't like the ticky tack unnecessary roughness penalties that get called, and that was what I was alluding to in the other thread.... But you have to protect the head. Those should be flagged everytime and repeat offenders suspended. Those hits to Cribbs and Massaquoi were no accident. They were delivered to injure.I, and MANY others, don't like where the league is going with this. I like their attempts to make the game "safer" for the players....but at what cost?

killer_ewok;526263 wrote:The hit on Cribbs was clean. Timmons was bringing Cribbs down and Harrison was already running toward the play to help finish the tackle and Cribbs' head lowered and that's how it happened. The NFL saw nothing wrong with that hit.
Ward, by definition, deserved the penalty. That's all I was saying there. Harrison deserved a penalty on the Massaquoi hit but not on the hit on Cribbs. That was clearly incidental helmet-to-helmet whereas Ward clearly launched his shoulder at Shipley's helmet there. That looked pretty intentional to me....and to the league.HitsRus;525998 wrote:Ewok....Nothing interesting at all about it. I was not talking about the hit on Shipley. There were several other BS calls in that game. Ward was wrong, he was penalized, and the Bengals got a TD out of it. If he continues to head hunt he should be suspended. I'm not talking about a QB getting knocked down on continuation or some other penny ante calls....I'm talking about purposely trying to injure a guy. Give me one reason why blows to the head should be allowed/tolerated. I'm old enough to remember the Daryl Stingley injury. That was awful...and it was an accident. How long do you think it will be before something like that happens again if things continue along at this clip?
...and on the other thread you said this:
"Pretty sure that you can't use your shoulder to drill an opposing player in the head either. Therefore, it doesn't need to be helmet-to-helmet to warrant a penalty. Shoulder to helmet=penalty."
Harrison one of your boys? I'm not going to defend Ward...why are you defending this jerk.

Here's the video of the hit on Cribbs. There is direct helmet to helmet contact, and in no other part of Harrison's body touches Cribbs. He doesn't even attempt to use his arms. I don't see a bit of difference between what Ward did and what Harrison did.Harrison deserved a penalty on the Massaquoi hit but not on the hit on Cribbs.
