I said the Steelers have evolved into more of a passing team the past few years but traditionally they've had a good running game, good defense and they've been known as a physical team. That consistent brand of football, the product the Steelers put out there on a regular basis, has maintained the fans they've had for awhile and I'm sure attracted some new ones. I just wouldn't say it's purely about winning championships but the style of play, the excitement, all those things together. And even with some of the recent off-the-field issues, the Steelers built a reputation for being a stable, first-class organization. The best in the NFL.Commander of Awesome;519984 wrote:Thats why us OSU/Browns fans dont know about football right? Where was your tough flying around defense last year with Troy out? Where's the smash mouth running game of the steelers youve been championing? It doesn't exist.
The brown had a better ranked rushing offense last season, something the steelers were really missing out on while they were missing the playoffs and losing to the browns. Any other fail blanket statements you care to mention?

The Browns also lost to the Steelers last year. They played twice, which people seem to forget.
The Browns won once after losing 12 times in a row.
They haven't won/swept the season series since 1988. They haven't finished tied or ahead of the Steelers since 1989.
The Steelers had a miserable year by their standards and they still finished 9-7, four games ahead of the Browns.
They're still in much better shape despite the Browns drafting higher year after year.
The Steelers have awesome players, too. Harrison and Woodley and Polamalu and Aaron Smith, Heath Miller, Hines Ward, Roethlisberger. Clutch players. Champions.

Yeah I know we are just talking about sports entertainment, but there has to be some correlation. If you can't stick with the team you root for, because they are doing badly, then you are likely to do the same in real life situations that actually matter. It's a reflection of one's attitude and mind set imo. If you don't believe me, see LeBron James as an example.
I agree with your point, actually.
But I don't think this is how most fans are. I doubt that a lot of fans who like both the Steelers and Buckeyes just decided a few years go. They probably have for a long time.
My favorite teams are the Steelers, Pirates, Penguins, Pitt and OSU. I sort of became a bigger OSU fan when they hired Tressel but I went to games and wanted to see them win before that.

Bottom line is....the product that the Cleveland Browns franchise puts out on the field YEAR IN and YEAR out.....flat out sucks. That is a fact.
No chopped photos, weak insults, or 50+ year old "championship" trophies can fix.
As for the game. I'm thinking Pittsburgh doubles them up in total yards....is that too much of a reach?

I don't think it's unreasonable during the lead up to the Steelers/Browns game to discuss the state of the two franchises, the recent trends, and so forth.
But I'm willing to discuss this game, as well.
I like the Steelers chances. Coming off the bye week. Getting Ben back. I also like that Emmanuel Sanders is expected to be activated for this game. He's a rookie but he has some polish and speed, which should give them another weapon for when Ben is scrambling around and trying to get some plays down the field.
Browns are playing pretty good defense and Cribbs has been a thorn in the Steelers side. So they could have a chance if they get some turnovers and Cribbs makes a big play or two.
I think ultimately it will be decided by how Ben is able to handle the pressure. Rob Ryan will test him. They had success getting after Matt Ryan last week but when Ben is at his best, he's much more mobile and dangerous extending plays and finding receivers. If his timing is off and/or the Browns are able to get him on the ground then it will be a close game, if Ben has a good feel for the game right away the Steelers will likely torch the Browns. They won't be able to keep up.

Glad there is some actual intelligent game talk going on! I agree with a lot of what you are saying Non. I just will never be able to wrap my head around people changing teams they root for ever. For whatever reason. Be it they stink, you like a player for another team etc. Josh Hamilton has become one of my favorite athletes in any sport. Does that mean I'm going to stop rooting for the Indians and become a Rangers fan? Not a chance. I guess it's just the way I was raised and how I view a great fan. I could never imagine cheering for anyone but my hometown teams. To each his own I guess. Every team that is good will have bandwagon fans. Pittsburgh, OSU, you name it. Sometimes it's tough to tell the real true fans from the ones that just cheer for whoever is good.
As for the game. I'm trying to find something to be hopeful about, but I'm really having a hard time. I think Cleveland will be lucky to score 10, and the defense will keep it close just like the other games but eventually wear down and Pittsburgh will pull away in the 2nd half. I just hope Colt doesn't get killed and manages the game well.

LOL @ people who like the Steelers and the Buckeyes.
Also, my time with the Browns isn't about "enjoying" anything, other than supporting my hometown team of whom I roll with no matter what. The Browns may be down, but they will rise someday, and when they do, it'll be that much sweeter.
Seriously, get the fuck out of here with your explanations and rants about taking the easy way out and being a bandwagoner...
And please, PLEASE, stop grouping Pittspuke and OSU together.

LMAO at people giving a fuck about who others cheer for. Yeah, I'm such a bandwagon fan which is why my teams include the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Knicks and Notre Dame. Yeah, lots of success in my lifetime.

So if some of our teams occasionally win championships, we have an AL and NL team and we cheer for two different college teams, we can't be legit fans, huh? LMAO ok.

Exactly. You get one. You have favorite teams in different divisions too? This is my NL West team , and this is my AL East team, sorry you get ONE team. Thats it. I'm from ohio, thus all my teams are from OHIO. I'm not much of a hockey fan but sorry by default I am a Blue Jackets fan. I dont understand who someone who has an AL and an NL and a college bball/college fb team can possibly get any level of excitement/gratitude for "their teams" winning. You flip flop your allegiance all the time, wheres the pride in that?
Back to the game, I saw Colt in the preseason, and he flat out sucked. I wouldn't be surprised to see him benched by the second half in favor of Ratliff. Only way we have a shot here is if Hillis/Davis can get a run game going (not likely given rookie QB with our WRs/playcalling) Cribbs returning to form on Special teams and Wildcat, and the defense sacking rapistfucker causing turnovers. I think our defense is good enough to keep it respectable. I am going to say 21-12 type score.

I think the key for Cleveland is to get McCoy comfortable with short passes and try their hardest to keep him on his feet.....establishing somewhat of a run game would also help. I really don't see any of that happening though...especially the running part. Hillis is banged up right?

Umm, I think I made it very clear that I do NOT switch teams no matter what. The Pirates, ND and Knicks being listed should tell you that. NONE of those teams have had legit success in some time. If I was bandwagon I would've abandoned those teams a LONG time ago and switched allegiance. A favorite team in the AL and in the NL is not having a different team in each division. Now you're exaggerating and being extreme to make some point that isn't there. Furthermore, liking two different college teams isn't a big deal. I know some people who like several different college teams. Who cares? The excitement comes from sticking with my teams regardless of how bad they are and if they eventually do something good......it feels great. Let's be honest......my teams are not the best in every sport and they're not all over the country either.Commander of Awesome;520088 wrote:Exactly. You get one. Also, I gotta laugh that you're such a real fan of your hometown team but you don't even state factual info. If you're such a real fan of the Cleveland Browns.....why did you think they won 8 championships in a row? A Steeler fan shouldn't have to school you on the history of the Browns.
Back to the game, Pittsburgh routes Cleveland IMO. With Ben coming back, the crowd will be more jacked than usual and especially after that loss to Cleveland last year. Hillis won't be able to establish a running game for the Browns as the Steelers will have the box loaded with an unproven rookie QB back there. Plus, Hillis isn't 100%. So Cleveland will be one-dimensional. If McCoy does decide to change a play at the line.....he's going to have a helluva time getting the rest of the offense to hear him because that crowd will be raucous. LeBeau will have a gameplan ready to confuse the hell out of McCoy and consequently he'll throw at least 2 INT's. One will probably get housed. As long as Ben doesn't try to do too much, the offense should find success as they found a way to win without a legit QB against a defense like Atlanta's. It might be close for a half but Pittsburgh covers the spread.

I think I'm starting Ben over Brady.
And I think Wallace will emerge now that Ben is back. He should strike for a big play in this game, I'm thinking.

Skip Bayless just said the Browns could set the record for the least pass attempts in a game. Question for whoever: When running the wildcat does the regular qb have to stay in the game?

Funny side note, against the Eagles, waayyyyy back in the day, the Browns set the record for least amount of pass attempts in a game, a record which still stands today.....Zero. Won the game as well. Interesting little tid bit, nice FAIL on loudmouth bayless for not doing his homework.
