Roy Oswalt vs Bronson Arroyo

Anyone for the Reds care to hit the ball to the opposite field?

The Reds must've made 30 HR swings against a pitcher that was in complete control. No adjustment whatsoever by the Reds.

Gotta adjust...fortunately for the Reds Roy Oswalt doesn't move the ball around anything like Halladay....but if our approach sucks again.....ugh

MUST win game 2. No ifs ands or buts.

I really think the Reds will come out and play very well. And Bronson will pitch a gem.

Reds win 4-2.

Uhhhh Oswalt's got some pretty damn good stuff. There's a reason he's been one of the top MLB pitchers of the past 5 years regardless of his record for a terrible Astros team.

Yes, but he doesn't come at you from so many different directions or locations.

First off, Dusty screwed the pooch giving the ball to the wildly inconsistent Volquez. But like I was telling a friend, maybe Dusty was crazy like a fox? Maybe he knew it didn't matter who pitched for us, the cards were stacked against the Reds. Now in game 2 we have a steady veteran who has been here before and can beat Oswalt.

Turn it around now. Envison Arroyo in game 1. His start gets wasted and now going to game 2 we have either Cueto or Volquez to pitch. Suddenly I'm a whole lot less confident...

As a Philly fan, I really thought Wood was going to start game 1 for the Reds. The Phillies usually struggle with lefties and Wood dominated the Phills in his start and the 3 1/3 innings he pitched tonight.

Yeah we Reds fans had a thread discussing the move. Very few people thought Volquez pitching was a smart decision. Did Dusty forget that he was in Dayton about a month ago trying to straighten out his mechanics? Now all of the sudden he starts game 1? smh

Did someone really just try to explain to me why Roy Oswalt is effective?

Good God.

Oswalt is awesome...one of my favorite pitchers of the past decade...no one on here wanted Oswalt on the Reds more than I did. Oswalt throws a striaght fastball that has excellent late action...but it's hittable...ESPECIALLY if the god damn Reds go the other way some.

His fastball is straight and his amazing curve is 12 -6.

Halladay just threw a game of the best movement pitches in every direction that I have ever witnessed....far better chance versus Oswalt....but my main fear Friday is Bronson getting rocked....if he can get the Phillies to swing at some poor pitches early in the count he will be effective....but the Phillies if patient (like every playoff team except the Reds) should hit Bronson pretty hard.

I think it'll take 6+ to win game 2

I'm not to sure about 6+ runs to win game 2. I don't see Oswalt giving up more then 2 or 3 runs at the most. He has only gave 3+ runs in 3 starts since he came over to Philly and is 7-1. But you never know, that's why they play the game.

If Oswalt goes 6 2/3 and gives up 2-3 the bullpen could muster a touch of a meltdown....far crazier things have happened.

If anything I mean the Reds will need 6+ to win.

I think these are the two best teams in the NL and the winner will win the NLCS and reach the World Series.

Going to be tough for the Reds but one positive is they only have to beat the Phillies three times as opposed to four times if they met in the NLCS.

Halladay won his start, which seemed like a safe bet. But if the Reds can come back and take Game 2 then it's series on.

Reds probably plan on starting Laynce Nix in Game 2 over Gomes.... Nix's career vs. Oswalt is 9-for-17 (.529) with three doubles, one triple and two home runs with four RBIs. His on-base-plus slugging percentage of 1.732.

5-4 is the score I'm thinking as well. I think Oswalt pitches well and leaves as the winning pitcher but his bullpen blows it for him.

Why make 2 changes already? Is Dusty panicking?

Nix has a 1.732 OPS vs Oswalt and Hanigan always catches Bronson.

Ah makes sense. Didn't know Arroyo had a personal catcher.
