Kelly's quarterbacks always improve dramatically after a complete year in the system (most do in any system). Ceirre Wood needs to explode against one of the lesser teams on the schedule to give me some confidence there, but the coaches are huge on his ability so I trust it.

Would I be such an idiot to say most of those guys can play in the NFL since their grades are spread out? I can see Crist (needs to get more accurate though, or he'll be Brady Quinn), Wood, Floyd, Jones, Riddick, Rudolph, Martin and Watt making NFL rosters.

The answer to the question, though, is no. That Ohio State defense is the best defense I've ever seen. Just disgustingly good all around and I don't see Notre Dame's 2011 being "the best I've ever seen."

Defensively, I think Notre Dame will have a great ILB corp, but the DE/OLB guys will have to wait until 2012 to start kicking ass, the incoming freshmen are unbelievable but freshmen rarely make an impact on defense in the trenches. The defensive backs mostly return I believe and only add depth, so they'll be better. A better defense next year from a defense that had 9/12 pieces this season. They need a great pass rusher and competent OLB's; Filer is coming on though as of late.

If you can't tell, I'm fairly excited for Notre Dame to finish this season 9-4 and roll into next season.

If Dayne Crist ever figures out how to put together a complete game, this ND offense can reach unstoppable heights. They should have blown Pitt out, especially after the effort the defense gave. Growing pains right now but I'm optimistic that there's an improvement pattern developing and it hits full stride when Utah rolls in to South Bend on Nov. 13th.

Yeah Brian Kelly will get an A+ from me if they win out. All it would require is the offense clicking an entire game.

I think it's a major reason the Western Michigan game could be a huge blowout. When is the last time you've seen Notre Dame put 50 on someone? I think Brian Kelly's offense needs all of the live reps they can get so he doesn't pull them as soon as he normally would.

Still though, I'll call 44-10 over Western Michigan.

^^^^What hurts is they're so close to being a potent offense it drives you nuts. I thought going in to the year that the offense would be pretty good, obviously everyone hasn't adjusted to Kelly's scheme but I think they get it rolling in the next three games and build some much needed confidence.

Kelly just said in his press conference that Kyle Rudolph will have season ending surgery on his hamstring. He said the hamstring was further injured Saturday during the game, and the hamstring was torn away from the bone.

ND fans need to relax. they are not going to win out as they will win 6 or 7 this year. They are going to be good next year though as I said before 8 or 9 win season at minimum next year IMO.

I don't think so. I would assume, unless something goes horribly wrong with his rehab that causes him to miss the 2011 season, that next year would be his last season either way. There was speculation on him entering the draft this year so I would be surprised if he was entertaining the thought of sticking around 2 more seasons if it were possible.

Medical Hardship Waiver

If a student-athlete suffers a season-ending injury or illness after competing in a limited amount of competition during a particular academic year, he/she may qualify for a medical hardship waiver which would allow him/her an additional season of competition during the five-year period of eligibility. To qualify for a medical hardship:

(a) the student-athlete’s injury or illness must occur in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition or subsequent to the first day of classes in the student-athlete’s senior year in high school;

(b) the injury or illness must occur prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport and must result in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and

(c) the injury or illness must occur when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests/dates of competition or 20% of the institution’s scheduled contests/dates of competition in his/her sport (whichever number is greater).


By (c) it looks like Rudolph won't be eligible for a medical hardship waiver. Fortunately he still has one year of eligibility to look forward to.

I'm the guy who (not "that") said he could see scenarios in which Notre Dame defeats every opponent, and see scenarios in which Notre Dame loses to all of them except Western Michigan and Army. I also said so much of it is up in the air that you'd be a fool to actually predict how they'd do. I believe I was correct with my assessment outside of how good Stanford is this season.

Tressel's first team went 7-5 his first season. Every Ohio State fan I've ever met was content with it because they looked better coached and beat Michigan. Way to take a comment out of context, you dumb fuck.

So you are assuming neither Floyd or Rudolph will go pro after this year?

Well, considering Rudolph is now out for the year.....I think that it's fairly safe to say that he returns. And Floyd hasn't had an outstanding season (2010) thus far although the physical tools are there and he had potentially great seasons last year and the year before prior to injuries. Furthermore, there is a lot of uncertainty NFL-wise regarding the CBA and whether or not there will even be pro football played in 2011. I think they both stay.

BTW, that's awful news about Kyle. He's the best TE in the country IMO.

He's the best receiving tight end in the country, I'm not 100% sure he's the best overall. I do think it's crazy he caught that 95-yard touchdown against Michigan with a bad hammy, in hindsight.

Once I read that the NFL/owners will still receive 100% of the television money regardless of whether there is a season or not, I became convinced there will not be a 2011 season.

Kyle Rudolph's recovery period is six months. He will not wow any teams with a no show at the combine. I'd bet the farm (or he's an idiot) that he realizes he won't be a first-rounder and will instead return for an impeccable 2011 season, a Notre Dame degree that almost guarantees a great income, and return to first-round form.

Michael Floyd.....isn't playing like a first-rounder. But again I'm banking on there not being an NFL in 2011.

He said today that while he was running towards the end zone, he was actually thinking about his hamstring giving out on him. It had to be bothering quite a bit, crazy that he was able to play that long on it without something worse happening.


There is also a mock draft that has (had) him going 13th overall in the 2011 draft.

That was before today's news. Same guy now says he would be late first round at best and most likely second round or later. 6 month rehab would mean he wouldn't' be able to work out at combine. The only thing that could keep in in first round is the fact there is no other senior tight end close to his abilities.
