Sound good to me …. I vote “ yes” “Agenda America Can Have Confidence In”

Ehh, some of it is nice. But, they fail to provide how to do it.
It will be kind of hard without some support of D's in the Senate. I will want something in there about how to reach across the aisle and lead. I won;t want them in power if they are just going to streamroll their own agenda in without at least seeking support from some D's. That is basically the situation we are in now.

Plus, I've seen where they want to dramatically increase missile defense, more than 12 billion a year. That makes no economic sense, as the current plan supported by the DoD and Gates is both strategic and economic.

They won't have the Senate, so they'll be forced by default to reach across to some extent.

And if the hand reaching across the aisle is slapped away, what will their response be?

As a Senior, I'd like to know what their plans are for Social Security and Medicare. They were conveniently left out of the Pledge. Maybe they are planning to do nothing about them. Maybe they'll increase the benefits as part of their version of health care reform. What do you think the chances are of that happening?

I have just as much confidence in the republicans as I do for the "we're looking out for the little man" democrats.

Can you guess what percentage that might be?

Job-killing is bad! Everyone agrees with that, but it just sounds like more hope and change to me.

I also like A reining-in of government 'red tape.' When is the last time anyone in government eliminated red tape?

How about The imposition of a "hard cap" on discretionary spending, meaning the government can't go above a certain level. I'll believe that when I see it.

Neither side wants to give any details. It's harder to argue with generic "bring back all the jobs" statements.

Where was the Dem plan in 2008? Did they run for election based on a government-controlled health care system or did they run on "health care reforms"?
Did they run on no border security or did they run on "comprehensive immigration reform"?
Did they run on taxing carbon and creating a false scarcity or was this ignored?
Did the Dems run on appointing avowed marxists to "czar" positions without any Senatorial scrutiny?

The Democrats did NOT run on any specifics for what they had planned to do TO America...they used words like, "hope and change", "reform", and "change you can believe in". Hardly specific there, eh? I figured no matter what the Republicans rolled out today there would be wailing from all opponents that it isn't nearly specific enough. Yet....where were the Democrat specifics last time?

Finally....you want the Democrats to get specific? How about starting with submitting and approving a federal budget? Where is the budget for our country? Where are their specifics for funding projects and programs? Only the shadow knows apparently.

Did I say they had a plan with specifics in 2008? I think it's pretty obvious that they didn't just by looking at what has and hasn't been accomplished.

I suppose you didn't, but you berate the Republican plan as not specific enough and the Dems offered NO specifics then nor today. I suppose they don't have to offer any today because after 20 months, we have a very clear idea of what the Democratic Party would like to shove down our throats for our own good.

So where is the budget in the midst of the worst federal deficits of all time? Where are the specific cuts....excuse me for a sec...HAHAHAHAhahhahahaahahahhoahohohohhohehehehahahaha...they are proposing to get us heading in the debt-free direction?

An agenda is a framework for action...a list of goals that you'll work for. Specifics aren't necessary because it is a mode of operation moving forward. When individual action or proposal is considered, it is held up to the framework to see if it fits. If it doesn't, then it'll be rejected.

Whatever is proposed will need to fit within the framework of the agenda....and that is not necessarily bad. I'm a lot more comfortable accepting that, then watching the Democrats enact huge new entitlement programs WITHOUT having fixed S.S. and Medicare. As a fifty something approaching retirement...that scares the hell out me. What exactly is their framework to provide such largesse? After you've taxed the hell out of the rich and business to pay for your ever expanding list of programs....how are you going to fix Social Security?

There is no John Kasich in the democrat/socialist party, thus "HAHAHAHAHahahahahaaaaaa" is correct.

He was the one who went through the federal budget line by line and made cuts, and made adjustments, and provided the leadership along with Newt that led to the federal budget getting nearly balanced in '90's.


Fortunately for Ohio, John Kasich is here.

I complained about the health care bill and will continue to do so.

And, in a similar vein, i'm going to be very skeptical and just not too excited about this "plan." Just seems like more of the same, a bunch of empty-pledges to get the ignorant base fired up but no specific-plans to tackle real problems the country is facing. This isn't anything new from the GOP. We know this is where they stand. What people are interested in are the specific plans they have. Which they continually fail to talk about.

And, this problem is endemic in all current movements, tea party, republicans, democrats, etc.

Well put cbus. No one has said "I'm going to x, x, and x by doing x,x,and x". They just say "we're going to create jobs and lower taxes and cut spending". Doesn't mean anything until you say how. This applies to all parties and movements.

On this we can agree. I'm not all giddy and having multiple orgasms over this "Republican Pledge" thing. Sure a lot of it sounds great from a conservative's point of view, but I got excited about the Contract with America back in 1994 only to watch the Repubs morph into Democrats-lite.

I'm not convinced this "pledge" means squat either. It's just "Hope & Change" Repub style.

The only thing I'm looking for right now in DC is some "balance in the Force." One Party rule in DC has got to go.

I think you miss the point. This is not supposed to be specific...it is a general plan of action.. Before you can get into specifics you have to have a goal and an idea of what you want to accomplish. That is what this is, and it contrasts directly with Democrats' agenda of passing new entitlement programs to be supposedly financed on the backs of the upper middle class and the "rich". It most certainly gives the voter a choice of which is the prime directive of the two major parties, and what would be the general legislative thrust.

Extending the tax cuts, or making them permanent would add an estimated $4 trillion to the deficit according to the CBO. The notion that cutting the federal budget will somehow make up the difference is laughable. The pledge exempts defense, entitlements and debt service -- the biggest components of the federal budget -- and focuses on "discretionary" spending, which Republicans would cut by "at least $100 billion in the first year alone." Yeah, right. Looks like the Tea baggers are not going to be any more happy with this change either. Same old bunch of BS and failed policies that got us here in the first place.
