I have to agree with your post. Steubenville could have every reason to fail, but continues to grow. You can throw all the punches you want, but this program is as well grounded as any in this state.

That is just my point about MANY teams being able to play or compete with NATIONALLY RANKED TEAMS. I live in Florida and watch these teams I listed. THIS YEAR we could easily compete and/or beat some of those ranked teams in Florida.

I think in the years to come you WILL see that come to flourishion.

People say "go play a Florida team," because you people say "we can compete with the best Florida teams." Why is that so hard to grasp? Anyone who follows HSFB on the national level would probably want to see you actually play and beat one of those teams before flapping yer gums about it.

If people would actually see these teams play live, instead of reading about them on message boards, or watching them on TV, then they could make a better argument.

IMO, Big Red without a doubt was the best team on Saturday. Big Red was more balanced, more team speed, and had just as much size as Bosco or Iggy (which suprised me).

When we were in Pittsburgh I can honestly say that Big Red would struggle with Manatee and Cocoa, would be a toss up with Pittsburgh Central Catholic and McKeesport (even though we won, it was an evenly matched game), and would beat Thomas Jefferson and Woodland Hills.

Ignatius isn't usually big in size. Even their deep playoff teams and state champions were not usually big in size.

Although they are certainly down in talent level this year it shouldn't surprise you they are not big because that has been the case for most all of their teams.

Both Ignasius and Don Bosco had almost 100 kids on their rosters: Iggy 99, Don Bosco 97.
That's why I believe depth is so much an advantage when playing these types of teams. Many on these boards think we can hang with them; I'm not one of these.
Depth is very important, that's why most everyone is concerned about 2 of our star players possibly being out for the last part of our schedule.
An old saying goes: "Everything else being equal, let me pick from 100 boys and you pick from 50 and see who wins the greater percentage of the time."

Depth, for the most part, is mainly an issue when you consider playing these types of teams over the span of an entire season. No one, I believe, is saying that we can compete with these teams every week of the season, but in a one time shot scenario.

There's no question that the pure number available athletes is a distinct advantage. I clearly misinterpreted what was being referred with the term "size".

Ill tell you what . Its not my fault your team stinks . Why dont you do something about your own team . Since my team kicks butt the last several years I think I have some bragging rights . It is great . We got invited to PA to play in that event and we got invited to Wheeling last year and we held our own thing up here . Ill flap my gums loud and proud . I am not going over this again . Why dont you go golf or something or play video games or whatever it is that your good at .

If Ball can stay healthy look for DeSales and Stubbyville to meet in the Finals. and then you're gonna wish you were playing a FL team.

But 99 and 97 didnt play only around 40, so there goes your depth. Now if 99 and 97 played then you have a different story.

you can make the same case for big red, #22 has been out most of the year and 2nd/3rd string has stepped it up... now thats called depth.

22 will be back for the Massilion game and so will Meyer's with a torn MCL. Talked to his mom today and to him. He wants to play depends on the ole knee!

You might be talking about a hypothetical matchup involving one game and that might work out. You are the first one to mention that senario. I'm not out of line here; even Reno mentioned the fact that year over year depth is a problem playing against larger schools. Read some of these posters that believe we can lick the world just because we happen to have a little depth this year.

I hate to see a high school player in any sport get injured. As we all know, that's part of the game. A torn MCL takes time to heal. You can't rush back from that injury. Is he waiting to have surgery, or he doesn't need it? I hope he gets back in the lineup as soon as his body is able.

You are kinda hitin at our team here on our thread ,you act as if your team stinks or you just dont like some bragging on our part either way I dont care.

From what I understand there is no surgery in his future. I am crossing fingers it doesn't get more damaged in the future, hate to see that happen for anyone. I hope all our players are good as gold for the Massilion game! RRR

Woodland Hills, McKeesport, Massillon, all are large schools, but their depth didn't help them out that much. In fact sometimes "depth" hurts you because these schools try to have two platoons instead of getting their best players on the field for more of the game.

Wheeling Park and Morgantown are larg schools too

I like how they had the Steubenville vs Morgantown game billed as small school powers in the USA today Monday . and Billed the event as Rally in the Valley , not ralley in death valley, and that we beat Morgantown by 28-7 not 35-7. Who was doing the sports writing somebody from Steub Central ?

Again, these have been an exceptional 2 years for us. We caught Woodland Hills and McKeesport the first game of the season. I agree, if we do have any advantage, it's conditioning. I also believe if we catch either of those 2 teams later in the season, the scores could have gone the other way.
Platooning usually is applied to line play. That back from Don Bosco carried the ball 28 times for 257 yards. He stayed in the game, as did the QB. They substituted linemen all game long as did Ignatious.
I still say I would like to be able to form my team from 99 kids than from 40 or 50. That's been the theme of all my posts. But, we are what we are; a Div.3 team and I will not get carried away thinking what Div. 1 teams in the country we could beat. End of tune.
