There is a political theory that suggests that in the October preceding major American national elections that an event or series of events occur that can have an effect on the outcome of the elections.

It is believed that in general this event (or events) is a deliberate act of conspiracy concocted by or on behalf of the political party in power to assist that party in retaining power or at least minimizing the losses.

This has become known as the "October Surprise."

Since I'm a self-avowed Reagan conservative I'll attempt to be fair here and point out an example. Some believe that members of the Reagan campaign held secret negotiations with Iran prior to the 1980 elections to prevent the Carter Administration from pulling off its own October Surprise. That is Iran agreed to release the hostages after the results of the November elections.

Here's an interesting take on the topic from the American Thinker.

http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/07/the_october_surprise_is_coming.html

Yes, yes, yes it's a biased conservative web site but that's not the point. The point is the article got me thinking about an October Surprise for the Dems who are on the precipice of losing a significant chunk of their One Party Rule in less than 50 days.

My opinion is I wouldn't be at all surprised to see their own "October Surprise" broadcast by their allies in the leftist media very shortly.

I wonder what they'll come up with??

Obama was the warlock that Christine O'Donnell went on a date with back in the 90's.

That's an October suprise Quaker??

If I had to guess.....there will be something come out about Boehner that will prevent him from becoming Speaker. Not saying the 'Pubs won't take the house, but I think the Democrats will release something big about Boehner

That one was classic. Cost Dan Blather his job and we ended up with Katie Couric. CBS News has never recovered from that one.

THAT ONE has a distinct possibility. The Dems need something to stem the tide and get the country talking about them instead of about the Tea Party and fiscal sanity.

But would the Clintons actually DO IT? They know politics. The Bamster is down and the Dems need someone and quick! It sure would be fun to watch!

There is no love between Bill and Barry. If Bill could get back in the game and beat him, I think he'd love to do it. The Dems need something to change momentum or else it may likely be a historic night on November 2. Personally, I hope they continue to blame Bush hourly, keep calling the Tea Partiers "crazy nutjobs", and focus on candidate's personalities and traits and not discuss their voting record. THAT combo is a sure fire winner for one side.

The more I think about it, I think Hillary2012 won't fire up until after the midterms and she has a potential democrat party clearly in need of a leader. The '10 elections are a referendum on BHO and a GOP tsunami in the House and Senate would give incentive for a round 2 of HRC vs. BHO... reminiscent of 1980 when Teddy The Swimmer took on Jimmy for the nomination.

Given the turmoil that the Republicrats will have with all the new Tea Party additions in Congress and a possible knock-out-drag-out between BHO and HRC, it could be a very exciting time watching the 2012 elections take place.

I don't buy the Hilliary in 2012 argument. If you hear her repeated statements the last few months, she is ready to retire and join Bill at CGI. She has been all over the globe the last 20 months and is pretty exhausted. Plus, she sounds pretty satisfied at what she is currently doing. Plus, she is 62, near 63. 2012 would put her at 65. I think she really wants to retire at that point.

I see her ending her SECSTATE job at the end of Obama's term and not challenging him for reelection.

The Tea Party people are Republicans with different clothes on. Not exactly a shake up of DC. New faces sure, but not a whole lot in the new ideas department. Obama was supposed to be different and he hasn't been and the Tea Party people currently in and going to get elected into office aren't different either.

You may be right but the thing that should really "shake up" the Democratic Party at least is that Tea Party movement also has a lot of blue dog, centrist, and Reagan Dems in it.

As far as "new ideas" the Tea Party movement brings fiscal responsibility to the table...something the rhino Repubs and most DEFINITELY the current bunch of socialist twit Dems cannot seem to fathom. Maybe the Tea Party candidates will also succumb to the money and corruption that pervades DC but we have to start SOMEWHERE...no?

Why do the Tea Partiers have to be republicans? I would imagine that you'd find a healthy variety of groups within it.
