How impressed have you been with Pryor this year? And do you think he has a future in the NFL?

I was discussing this after the game today with some friends. I've been at the last two games, and I think you can judge QB's a lot better in person compared to on TV because you can see the whole field and get a better sense of the velocity of throws.

I've been really impressed with Pryor this year and the improvements he has made each year. However, people were talking on here about him potentially leaving early and I just don't see it. I don't see how he plays QB in the NFL.

Also, I think that he is still the frontrunner for the Heisman. I really think OSU runs the table and if they do, that puts Pryor on the very short list.

What are your thoughts on Pryor?

I think Pryor has improved big time. He definately has command of the offense and is able to read defenses so much better. He also throws a better ball then he ever has.
That being said, he still has his moments. He still has room to improve. His short passes are not very good at times. But now, he is a serious dual threat. When he feels pressure...he is not just looking to run, but looking to pass first, then run if the lane is there. Really puts the defense in a very difficult situation.

As for the NFL...who knows. I mean the guys has almost 2yrs to improve yet. He is an unbelievable athlete, a freak of nature. People compare to Vince Young. I honestly don't. I see more Randal Cunningham (for those who say him play). And he was a pretty good NFL QB. Time will tell.

He won't leave early even if OSU wins the NC.

He will stay all 4 years and develop into a decent backup QB in the NFL

If he continues to put up the stats he has along with OSU's solid play he'll win the Heisman unless someone just has an insane year (which is possible).

His short throws need work, but his deep balls have been spot on this year. He is more patient in the backfield and doesn't look to run at the sign of pressure. In a tight ball game Pryor doesn't make that throw into the endzone like he did today. He has a nice grasp of the offense and seems to have taken over as a leader.

I have also been impressed by his improvement though he certainly has room to grow. I think he has a future in the NFL simply because he's a rare talent athletically, but I don't think he has the accuracy or arm velocity to be an NFL quarterback unless it was a system specifically tailored for him.

If he leaves early he has no chance of being drafted as a QB. If he stays he needs a lot of work to have an NFL future at QB. I think he has a decent arm, his throws are just ugly and he doesn't really know how to control the zip he is supposed to put on it. His decision making is better, but he is by no means a great passer.

I don't know how you can award him or anyone else the Heisman right now. This talk about him winning it is crazy. OSU has played one overrated team in Miami and that's it. It's pretty easy for the QB at OSU to rack up the numbers against Marshall, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Illinois etc. How about we wait and see what happens when/if OSU plays a decent defense?

Couldn't the same be said about everyone who is racking up big numbers and getting Heisman praise currently? Yes. And I am not sure this thread was about the Heisman. I could give a shit about that. I just want OSU to win. And if they continue to win, it will be because of QB play.

And NO, its not as easy as it looks to do what he is doing. Its still D1 football. And just as you say lets see what happens...well, same can be said with Maimi, lets see how they end up. I personally think they are better then I thought. They have some big time talent/athletes.

I was sitting with someone at the game who was also listening to the radio play by play and he said Pryor had completed 12 in a row and needed one more for the OSU record, and it's something you didn't even realize, but then thought about how impressive it really was (even though it was OU).

And then after a nearly flawless 1st half he throws those two Horrible Int's and you see that he's just not all the way there, but he's certainly close. But his running ability absolutely makes him such a threat to defenses. And he is so much more patient in the pocket where he doesn't take off running if his first read is covered, which makes him even more dangerous.

With that said, the OSU running back has been pathetic, so you wonder how much more dangerous he could be if he had some help from someone behind him, and you also realize the pressure he has to make plays offensively.

Interesting to hear someone say they think he will be the best QB to ever play at OSU, especially considering just a few years back we had Troy Smith who I think was one of the most impressive college QB's his senior year of all time.

IMO, Pryor is the best all around quarterback in the nation. Yes might not be the best passer in the world but there is no QB in the nation right now I would rather have, and no its not because I am a Buckeye fan, last year I Colt McCoy was the best college football QB. For me the best College QB does not mean the highest picked QB in the draft.

Pryor still has his moments. In todays game his 2 int where very dumb passes. Also the the tipped ball right before Halftime was a easy TD if he threw it out in front of Dane at all.

I really hop Pryor comes back, I don't think he is NFL ready but who the hell are we to say if he is or isnt. My gut says he will be back, but I will not believe that until its official.

Miami has a pretty good defense. Just because Jacory Harris sucks doesn't mean their defense does.

Name one Heisman contender who has put up good numbers against a solid team/defense? Your answer will be no one right now. Mallet, Robinson, Moore, Clay etc. No player has played a legit defense imo.

Pryor just happens to be the starting QB on the #2 team in the nation, was on the preseason short list for the Heisman, and has played pretty well overall. Not really that crazy of talk.

I think the reason that Pryor does get his name thrown around is because of the schedule OSU plays. When you play the likes of Marshall, OU, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and Minnesota, that gives you 6 games to basically pad your stats and then OSU will be the favorites in every other game.


BTW, I think Ryan Mallett wins the Heisman anyways.

Apparently the "and anyone" else part of my post was mysteriously overlooked. It's week 3, teams by and large are playing cupcake games. No one should be in the Heisman talk right now.

I just dont get how his deep balls are so nice and have so much touch on them....but he struggles with the simple short routes? its usually the other way around

Mallett's Heisman win or lose comes next week vs Bama. HIs lack of mobility will cost him as it has in the past. If he happens to play well/ beat Bama...he may be in the thick of it. If he did what he did last year, he won't win it.

I disagree about Ohio State not having good running backs. The O-Line just never creates holes.

This is what I believe, and what I heard talk on the radio not long ago. It may sound stupid, but its not. His size and arm length make it difficult for him to throw short passes. With his long arms, he has quite a bit of motion/windup. It does make it difficult. I would compare this to many big centers having difficulty shooting FT's as well as not seeing many golfers being very tall. All of that motion leave more room for error.

Agree. Besides the special teams issues. The most disappointing thing the past two games has been the online creating holes for the running game. No question. With the experience and talent they have, this should NOT be an issue. Good ole Bohlman and his zone blocking scheme. NEver have liked it, never will.

That obviously has something to do with it, but today against OU the running game was pathetic, and that's inexcusable. Whether it's the OLine of RB's themselves, it doesn't matter. I really thought Saine would take that next step and be the guy this year, but he's been really disappointing. I just wish they would give Berry and/or Hall a shot in these games against OU and hopefully next week against Eastern. They certainly can't be any worse.

That does kinda make sense to me that itd be easier for him to throw all out instead of try to shorten up his long throwing motion for the short passes

I agree with this, but at the same time, a great RB will create holes. Look at what Beanie Wells did with a pretty average OLine. I don't expect another Beanie this year, but there is no reason for OSU to not have a RB or two rush for over a hundred yards against a team so heavily outmatched like OU.

I agree to an extent. I personally thought Beane was a great RB. Not many on here agree. And by no means is Saine or Herron in the same class as Beanie in terms of being that big bruising back able to break tackles. These backs need a some room to run. I too would like to see Berry get more carries. Just don't think its going to happen with Saine being a senior and Herron's experience. As many have said, Tressel is loyal to a fault at times.

I agree and I fear this will hurt us big time when playing a great D-line like Iowa's. Fortunetly that game is late in the season and gives the o-line time to work out kinks. Not too mention Pryor is elusive as hell.
