DickRod's offense works against undersized, slower, less talented defenses as one would encounter in the Big East and admittedly in about half of the Big Ten. But against well coached, athletic defensive teams his glorified HS trickeration will be exposed and absolutely destroyed. Anyone watching Sat. could see that (if) Crist had played the entire game ND wins by 2 - maybe 3 TDs. Unfortunately that did not happen but everyone please STFU about Ratard Robinson winning the Heisman, he will not even finish the season once scUM starts playing Iowa, Wis, PSU and MSU. Most likely he will not be the QB when scUM shows up in Cols due to injury.

i'd like to note that pat white was only hit a handful of times in his short NFL career and was knocked out with a season ending concussion for one of them. he was tackled in the Big East, but he was rarely hit.

Generally that's true.

I would, however, remind you that in a 3-4 the safeties have read force responsibilities on running plays.

If an OLB reads an outside step by the end lineman the same side safety has C gap responsibility. If the read is a down block on the end of the line the safety has force responsibility outside.

A C-gap or sweep team may have many tackles made by DB when the defense is properly executed.

OSU's star is more of a LB than a DB.

Get in a pissing match all you want with definitions of other teams, but at OSU both Hines last year and Moeller this year are LB's over DB's.

It's not uncommon for a safety to be a hybrid LB/DB...especially strong safeties.

That's fine, but at OSU they are more of a OLB than any other position.

No I don't.

Just noticed that Barnett was hurt. I was at the game and wondering why Johnson was in because Barnett had been playing fairly well with some big hits. Luckily we have a month for him to heal.

The star IS a hybrid position, but they are also the nickelback, which by definition makes them a db. Essentially osu goes into the nickel package with "Troy polamalu"playing the nickelback position. No one has ever called him a lb and his assignments are often quite similar to osu star position.
