Pat White got tackled by 180 lb. cornerbacks and safeties while playing those bad defenses. Denard will get tackled by 250 lb. linebackers and 300 lb. defensive lineman when playing good defenses.

How many good defenses make a lot of tackles in the secondary? How many bad ones?

6 out of the top 8 tacklers for OSU so far this year are defensive backs. OSU is a good defense correct?

When the teams you play are chucking it down field 40 times/game you better hope your DB's are making tackles.

Our DB's are reading their keys correctly and flying to the ball. They SHOULD BE making tackles at the line of scrimmage.
You want the DB's to stand around down field when the opponents are running the ball???

ummmm what? I'm aware that DB's make tackles at the LOS as well as all over the field. Cleveland Buck said that Robinson will be getting tackled by linebackers and defensive lineman when he goes up against good defenses. I merely pointed out that for OSU, which has better than a good defense, DB's make a lot of tackles. Try following the entire conversation before chiming in.

Thanks, hoping he makes a quick recovery. Kid looked REAL good when he was in. He was hittin everybody hard and playing with a ton of intensity...loved it.

You never heard someone say it is a bad sign for your defense when your strong safety leads the team in tackles? Obviously there are exceptions, but in general, if the secondary has a lot of tackles, they are making them downfield. If the front four and linebackers make most of the tackles they are probably close to the line of scrimmage, not giving up a lot of yards.

Also, Tyler Moeller is a linebacker, not a DB. When he comes in he replaces a LB, never a corner or a safety. Here are the Buckeyes tackle numbers:

Even if you have to (erroneously) count Moeller as a DB, the DL and LB still make more tackles than the secondary, which is pretty impressive when both of their opponents have been down big early and had to throw the ball most of the game.

Moeller is a Star, which is a hybrid lb/db. It's OSU's nickel package, which would technically make him a DB

I know that's what they call him, but he doesn't play defensive back. He never plays either of the safety positions and rarely covers wide receivers man-to-man. He comes in to be a linebacker that can run.

That is neither what a Star or the nickel package is. If he wasn't a db, they would then pull him and then put in another db for the nickel package. He is a DB. You can say whatever you want, but by definition, he is a DB

If he was a DB, why would they pull him for a real DB in the nickel? Look, he plays near the line of scrimmage, which for my argument (where tackles are made on the field), means he is a linebacker.

lol whatever. He is a DB, but you can call him whatever you want for little argument.

I guess Hines was a LB last year too, as he played the EXACT SAME POSITION in the NICKEL PACKAGE

The star is the nickelback in the nickel package.

Good. The Buckeyes D-line and linebackers still make more tackles than the secondary does, and that's in 8 quarters of football where the opponent had to throw almost exclusively for 6 of them. That is what Denard would have to deal with running the ball 25+ times a game in the Big Ten. Pat White never had to take that kind of punishment.

I may have misinterpreted Cleveland Buck's post, but I thought what he meant is that Pat White was being tackled by DB's as a ballrunner. Bad defenses allow ballrunners to get into the secondary. If a good defense has leading tacklers that are in the secondary, to me, that means that team is passing alot. Just how I viewed his post.

Yes I understand that but it also depends on what kind of offense you are facing. It isn't a good sign if you safeties are making a lot of tackles if you are facing a traditional running game. RichRod's offense spreads the field horizontally as well as vertically and they didn't really run the ball right up the middle where the line and LB's were waiting. With the amount of double screens and short passes along with Robinson getting to the outside, DB's are going to be needed to make tackles.
