Yea..wish I would be getting back in time to go to it. It seems like Akron hasnt been playing as good lately..giving up more goals. But, I think our goalie (Meyes) is just overrated to begin with. Seems like he is somewhat protected by great team defense and doesnt have to make too many saves.

Here is a letter Nanchoff (#9) wrote to the Ak Rowdy group:

Dear Fellow AK-ROWDIES and Akron Supporters,

As I am sure all of you are aware, we kick off against the Indiana Hoosiers tomorrow (Sunday) at 4pm on Lee R. Jackson field. Being a Sweet 16 match and all, this could go down as one of the most significant games in Akron soccer history. In our eyes, we surely see this as another major stepping stone on our way to the College Cup. However, if you ask me, I would say this is a war. You may laugh a bit when I use that term, but you have to understand the hatred I have toward this specific team. In my eyes, they are a bunch of posers who pretend to carry the rich tradition of Indiana soccer.

In regards to my previous statement, I cannot stress enough how much I am sick and tired of hearing about IU’s tradition. Forget that! We are Akron! We are the team to beat and have proven that all year long! If you have followed us closely enough, you may have noticed we have IU’s number at this very moment. We need to keep that going and tear it up on the field tomorrow.

With that being said, none of this is possible without you guys, the AK Rowdies! Each and every one of you MUST understand that all of YOU give us something to look forward to on game days! You give us the extra motivation, energy, and spark needed to pull through the toughest of times. Hearing the loud roar from the “march to the match” and the chanting throughout 90 minutes of play sends a chill through my (our) bodies. Because of all YOUR commitment to the University of Akron Men’s Soccer Team, you must know that YOU ARE THE REAL DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS TEAM!

AS A REMINDER, THERE ARE 500 FREE TICKETS (PURCHASED BY OUR VERY OWN CALEB PORTER) FOR ALL STUDENTS! IN ADDITION TO THAT, THERE IS PIZZA TO GO AROUND FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE (THIS IS NO JOKE). SURE, I UNDERSTAND THAT THANKSGIVING BREAK IS CURRENTLY IN SESSION BUT I KINDLY ASK FOR EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU TO SUPPORT US AND BE LOUDER THAN EVER IN THIS SWEET 16 NCAA MATCH. LETS CREATE THE NATION’S MOST INCREDIBLE COLLEGE SOCCER ENVIRONMENT!

The "march to the match" begins at 2:30pm (between the field house and the football stadium) and the game starts at 4 pm.

Once again, thank you so much for your unbelievable support all year long. Our mission is to bring home a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! Like I have mentioned before and will mention again, YOU ARE THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THIS TEAM! We need YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Michael Nanchoff #9 aka 'Nano'

P.S. The goalie (Soffner) is a softy and their defensive midfielder (Jordan #15) talks smack about Akron Soccer like it’s his job. Take care of that and then some. Thank you.

Zips win 2-1. Face the winner of the Cal-Brown game. Cal is leading 2-0 with 20 minutes left

I don't know that I like the spirit of that letter if it's real.

I've been gone for the past week. But in the quarterfinals, Akron knocked off Cal in penalty kicks in a heavy snowfall. It was the most exciting soccer game i've been to or seen (even though that isnt saying much). Currently tied 1-1 with Michigan at half time in the semi finals (who they beat 7-1 at home this season, and also hasnt lost a game since that night). Winner plays Louisville Sunday I believe.

I know this game is tied but I'm looking forward to the Finals game. I'd love to have the Zips win the national title against their former head coach Ken Lolla who upon his departure said Akron would never become a national title contender. He won the MAC quite a few times but thought that's as far as the program could go.

Akron wins 2-1. Hoping they win the title if only so that the CSU guys can be all "see them, on tv, with the trophy? We beat them".

My guess it has been awhile. Akron and Miami (hockey) have been close these past 2 years.

Is this the first chance at a National Title for Akron in any sport?

This would be the first ever NCAA title for Akron. They were runners-up last year.

I cannot believe that the NCAA DI hockey championships have been won by either Boston College or Boston University since 1993-94!

Miami had the biggest choke job ever to keep them from winning the hockey title a few years ago. Still makes me sick to this day.

BGSU has one National Title in hockey in 1984 in the longest ever hockey title game and it's the only Hockey National Title for the State of Ohio.

You must not follow Hockey.

Boston College has won it in 2001,2008 and 2010
Boston University has won it in 2009

So a BGSU's national championship wouldnt count as a MAC school winning the national championship since they are in the CCHA as well, right?
