Scenario #3 - OSU and scUM are solid #1 & #2 and both undefeated going into last game. #2 pulls upset and wins on last second field goal. Next week in Conf. Championship OSU comes back and handles the new #1 convincingly. Only one other team in nation with one loss...Question: Do they play a third time for the BCS Championship?

I agree. The days of the Big Ten having 2 BCS teams every year will be over because of the champ game. IMO.

WXYT's Doug Karsch is reporting Michigan's regular-season finale with Ohio State will stay put when the Big Ten announces divisions tonight.

Ouch. They may not have the same (or any) divisions for basketball. If they do, Matta has to see that basketball is definitely taking a back seat at OSU.

Michigan and OSU are in different divisions. That's crazy.

On 97.1 The Fan here in Columbus is interviewing a radio personality out of Detroit right now who says he has a very good inside source who is confirming different divisions but they will still play the season finale. He also said that contrary to the public image the past few weeks that both Brandon and Smith fought hard to keep this as the final game of the season, but had to tow the Big Ten line in case they didn't get their way.

I meant that as it's the only rivalry that really matters in the conference. Other rivalries matter for their fans, but this one has conference and national implications almost every year. As far as the Big Ten goes, it definitely matters the most.

I get what you mean, but I think OSU/Michigan is much bigger to neutral observers than any of the rivalries they listed.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter to the Big Ten, I just don't think the Big Ten should bend over backwards to make sure it is more important than any other rivalry in the conference.

So let me get this straight, say both Ohio State and Michigan are undefeated heading into their final game. Both teams has their division locked up so they KNOW they will play each other again in the Big Ten championship the following week. So now they would have to beat the same team twice, back to back weeks, in order to play for a National Championship?

Yes, I do. I can guarantee you that fans of other Big Ten schools care more about the OSU/Michigan game than OSU and Michigan fans care about anyone else's rivalry. I mean, yes, obviously fans of Illinois and Northwestern care more about their game than they do about OSU/Mich, but I bet they pay more attention to the OSU/Michigan game than fans of other Big Ten schools care about the Ill/NW game. And besides, the Big Ten is a national product, and these two schools are your flagships, and their game is the one rivalry within the conference that is a national network broadcast every year, so yes, it matters more to the conference and it's the only one that really matters nationally.

Outside Indiana and Purdue no. You just proved my point. Everyone on here is saying OSU/Michigan is the biggest rivalry in sports, and to them it may be true. But the rest of the country doesn't feel the same way. Each team has a rivalry that to them, is the most important.

IMO them being in different divisions has almost no consequence, as long as they kept the game at the end of the year.

If the Big 10 does divisions the same as the Big 12, then the division winner is the team with the best conference record overall, not the best divisional conference record (which I thought it was).

Hypothetically if Michigan is tied with Iowa at 10-1 and OSU is tied with PSU at 10-1, then the loser of the OSU-scUM game gets eliminated from the conference championship game, which is what people wanted to make sure happened anyways.

Only if both teams have more than a 1 game game lead, then yes, that would be true. Fucking shitty situation if it ever came to fruition.
