If so, what are your thoughts on it? I'm thinking of getting my wife one. Did you get one with the big memory or small? 3G or just wi-fi? Would you buy it again or not? Also, I thought I saw they just came out with (or will be) a smaller version. Anyone know about that?

Any help is appreciated.

There is an event tomorrow at 1:00pm est (Sept. 1) that might have info on a new Ipad verson...just have to wait and see on that.

As for 3g vs wifi, and size questions....You have to decide where and what she will be using it for. As for hard drive, I always go for as much hard drive as I can afford if I think there is a chance I may be able to utilize it in the future.

If she is going to be using it around the house and you have wifi, there is probably no need for the 3g version. That should be a simple decision.

I personally do not own an ipad...Just doesn't make sense for my life...I have a desktop, a laptop, and a netbook at home, and am looking to buy an Ipod touch after tomorrow. The ipad is too pricey and too large to buy just for the novelty of it at this point for me. If I were at home more, and did not have a laptop/netbook, I would consider an Ipad.

My coworker has one. He pretty much just uses it to play games and surf the web. Honestly, think of it as a toy. The portability factor of it is great, however set it down on a table and it immediately becomes awkward with the curved back. Not sure if Apple includes the dock with the device, but I would definitely opt for the dock if you do decide to purchase it. I wouldn't opt for the 3g version, unless your wife REALLY needs to use it on the go. There are so many places that have free wifi so she'd probably still get ample use out of the iPad. The major selling point for me would be the battery life. Supposedly 10+ hours or something. Thats pretty crazy for a system that small with no extended battery.

I've played around with an ipad a few times, and it's a cool piece of technology, but personally my laptop serves the same purpose.

Now is the thing about having to sign a contract to use 3G true?

I was at Best Buy looking at them and the gentlemen spoke of something like needing to sign a contract for the 3G versions of the iPad, I walked away right then. I dont know if he was accurate though.

Ok, thanks. He probably meant to get 3G service like with an iPhone. That makes sense.

No contract on the 3G.
In the United States, 3G service is available through a breakthrough deal with AT&T. You choose the amount of data per month you want to buy — 250MB or 2GB. You’ll receive onscreen messages as you get close to your monthly data limit so you can decide whether to turn off 3G or upgrade your plan. Best of all, there’s no long-term contract. So if you have a business trip or vacation approaching, just sign up for the month you’ll be traveling and cancel when you get back. You don’t need to visit a store to get 3G service. You can sign up, check your data usage, manage your account, or cancel your service — all from your iPad.

I've used them before and just find them awkward as hell to use unless you're sitting at a table or desk...and even then a laptop would suffice.

They are great for what they are, portable web devices. If you think your wife would like a really portable and slick device for using the internet then the iPad might be a good choice.

You may want to consider getting her an iPod Touch. I use the hell out of mine and I love it.

For some reason it won't quote your whole post...

Anywho...that's pretty sweet that you can "pass as you go" with the 3G. That does make this thing at least a little more enticing. If Apple would add a frickin front facing camera then they could really push this thing.
