wrong. the ohm load from a sub has absolutely nothing to do with how it sounds. it has to do with how much power your amp will put out. the sloppy sound comes from a sloppy enclosure. rms = root mean square. it is the average amount of power that is needed to properly run a sub. i always over power my subs. the key is to keep the signal from the head unit to the input of the amp as clean as possible. easiest way to do that is with a 4volt output from head unit.

as far as brands, i like memphis subwoofers and amps. stay away from JL audio, and audiobahn.
