Just tried to add a 20 yr old dependent who is out of work right now on my policy under the new Healthcare reform law. I already had the Family plan but to add my 20 yr old they want to charge me an additional 366.00 per month.
They (Congress) failed to tell us the part that we had to pay extra for this.

Lol. When this passed I also thought, hey, finally something that is gonna help my family. Didn't work out for us either.

You're old enough to have a 20 year old dependent? You act like you're about 15.

P.S. This will need to be moved to the political forum.

Thats more than Cobra wanted to charge me when I graduated college. You can get a plan through assurant health for a fourth of that price.

This is going to to be the trend. Political considerations aside, your employer is now essentially forced to cover our spawn for seven additional years, and they have to pay for it somehow. By our best projections, it's going to tack about 3.5% - 4.5% onto what your employer will have to pay right out of the chute .

In the past, most employer plans would break coverage into four categories ( you, you/spouse, you/child, and "family") in terms of how much you would have to contribute. It was unusual for an employer to require an employee contribution for each minor chaild - basically, there was an "all you can breed" subsidy built in.

At least half of our clients are going to a straight "x" per covered person (regardless of age) contribution in the next enrollment period, and half the rest plan on doing so the following year. We got hit, too...if I still carried my three kids on my coverage, I would have gone from a monthly $385 family contribution to $510 per month ($102 x 5) because of the change.
