I took 4 semesters of Latin in high school...and 2 more in college.
So no, I don't speak any other languages. But I can sometimes get an idea of what someone is saying in Italian, Spanish, or French just based on the vocabulary from Latin.

No, I failed French in HS.
I do know enough Korean to get me fed, drunk, laid, or if not laid then slapped.

I could function in spanish speaking countries, as long as the natives of that country were very patient with me. I took 3 years of Spanish in HS and was very average at it. However I picked up a lot of common spanish words in case I ever needed it, which I have used on occasion. The custodians where I used to work were foreign, I didn't like how much they would make fun of us, and some people tried to communicate plays in Spanish in my football league and I was able to pick up on what they were saying. I believe that 1 in 4 statistic, although I would not believe it if they told me 1 in 4 Ohioans were bilingual. I'm assuming many people down south near the Mexican border are fluent in Spanish and English.

Zwick is fluent in douche.
I'm in the beginning portion of my Spanish sequence at OSU. I need 30 credits to graduate, 15 of them are Spanish.
darbypitcher22: I took Spanish 101 at 8:30a the first five-weeks of summer. It was awful.
By the time I got my sleeping pattern down, class was over. I'm glad 102 was full for the second five weeks, otherwise I would have probably shot myself. It was terrible.

When my mother speaks to me in Italian or Spanish (she is Argentinian, but from an Italian bloodline), I can understand everything. However, I speak both poorly, but can get by ok. I used to speak Italian somewhat well, and when I took some family members from Italy out on the town, we could communicate quite well. However, I feel I lost most of that talent, as I haven't practiced in years (but will get my chance in Italy this October on my honeymoon!) ...

Because of this thread I decided to start practicing my French again. I'm surprised at the amount of stuff I still remember having not taken a class in two years. But that's what four years in HS and a year of college French will do I guess.

Have you learned the word for "surrender"? . I think it's interesting how "etats" is state backward.
