Colt McCoy showed some flashes of potential, but at the end of the day, he's a young rookie QB who's not ready.... He doesn't have to be yet. He's not expected to contribute ANYTHING until 2012.

Any time you win in the NFL, it's positive. Doesn't matter if it's preseason. Winning builds confidence and chemistry. And this was in Green Bay. Very promising start for Jake and Seneca.

After watching Carolina Thursday and Cleveland last night, there's no doubt in my mind that the browns shoulda drafted Clausen instead.

I'm not getting my panties in a bunch after a preseason win as Indy goes 0-4 every year in the preseason. The defenses are very vanilla and favor the passing game. I liked some things I saw from the game however, Rubin looked solid, TJ Ward was impressive. We actually had a passing game, Robo I think can develop into a nice option, and Moore is a keeper.

Colt just looks too damn small to play QB. I was going to say Clausen is much taller, but he is only an inch taller than Colt (6'1 vs 6'2). Maybe that one inch makes a hell of a difference.
I agree with COA though, don't get your panties in a bunch over the first preseason game.

Let's not forget that the Browns are basically showing nothing on offense -- despite the success they had with the first unit. When play is for real, you'll be seeing lots of Cribbs and Wallace in wildcat formations that help break up what they are doing. All of that will drive defenses crazy and likely help make the offense more explosive.
As for the defense and blitzes not working...without two of your best DL to provide pressure, especially Rogers, I wouldn't expect those blitzes to be that effective. If Rogers is in there collapsing the pocket a little quicker, I think the blitzes work well.
This isn't a deep team, but I do believe the first line people, including the rookies on defense, will be good enough to keep most games close and winnable.

Wanted to add to what I saw:
-- Delhomme looked great. He made good decisions with great accuracy and zip on the ball.
-- Seneca had a few bad drives, but overall he played well.
-- Colt was terrible. I have no hope for him at all. The arm isn't there.
-- I'm not surprised buy Hillis's performance based on what I saw in camp, but I'm really glad to see that he is going to be utilized in the offense.
-- Same with Moore. It's nice to see that he's going to be playing.
-- Lauvao played well, other than that one time he got toasted. Our o-line is going to be good.
-- Fujita is out of place at outside backer. He has no pass rush ability.
-- Gocong looked slow to react and was out of position.
-- Barton is just terrible.
-- While many are talking about Ward, I thought Haden played better. He gave up some catches, but he was in position and had good coverage. There were no big gainers against him.
-- Ward did, however, look very good against the run. He was out of position against the pass, and struggled some there, but did a great job attacking against the run and short passes. He's going to be good, but we need a coverage safety next to him.
-- While good against the run, my fears about our safeties were confirmed. We have no one who can cover. Elam is just awful, and while good against the run, Ward has tight hips and was out of position.
-- Robiskie disappointed me. He had a few balls that he should have caught but didn't come down with. The game is still too fast for him, I think.
-- MoMass looked good.
-- Delhomme looked great. He made good decisions with great accuracy and zip on the ball.

People also must not know Mike Holmgren. If you think for one second that he's solely banking the future on Colt, you're sadly mistaking. Mike will draft a QB in almost every draft he partakes in. Depending on who's available at the times we pick next season, he may take a QB high.
Regarding Colt though, he's not to short. IT WAS HIS FIRST TASTE OF NFL FOOTBALL! Not every rookie comes in and lights the world on fire. His arm is just fine, he just made a couple of poor throws. I'd chalk it up to be nervous as shit. He made a couple of nice plays with his feet and did show some good decision making despite the two picks.
People are looking into the first PRESEASON game waaaaaaaaaaaay too much, imo. Some people think they have the defense/certain players already pegged out, and that's a mistake to do so. Teams evolve from the first game of preseason to the first game of the regular season... Whether it'll be good or bad is yet to be seen.

There's also something to be said about the decision making a QB either has or doesn't. It's instinctual. Clausen has it, Colt doesn't.
Don't give me winning BS.. switch the two qb's teams and see what happens.

it's the FIRST GAME OF PRESEASON..are you guys really giving up on a player, a fucking rookie, after literally one meaningless game?
As far as the game, Ward looked badass, our offense looked smooth with delhomme in there, and our running game was just picking up on the last few games of 2009. The only thing to me that looked weak was the pass protection. We kept getting beat on everything rodgers was throwing. We were able to contain their run and even forced a turnover, but when they looked to throw it was pitiful

Just sayin..VY's record as a starter: 26-13, Phillip Rivers: 49-22, not much difference

I know, I like Young....but he isnt as good as Rivers, I dont care what the numbers say lol. If Young ever gets to 49-22 it would be a shock. I think he will be around 20 games over .500 when his career ends. Rivers will be around 50.

you are right, there is no doubt in my mind Rivers is a better passer then Young, even though I dont like him. It just irks me that people act like VY has been a bust, when he hasnt. It doesnt hurt that Rivers plays in probably the weakest division in the nfl.

Was Clausen on the board when the Browns drafted McCoy?
The Browns only took a QB after they addressed important areas of need first, when its time to address the QB of the future a QB much better than Clausen will be there to take.
You obviously know a good QB when you see one judging by your username though.

The Browns will surprise the league this year. 7-9 at worst, wild card at best.
Just don't let us go up 2-0 and dump Baltimore in Baltimore week 3.

His stats from the browns website said he threw two
Aug 8, 2010 ... QB Colt McCoy: 6-of-11 for 31 yards, 2 interceptions, 2 sacks. (White); QB Brett Ratliff: 5-of-11 for 31 yards, 1 interception. (Brown ...
So yea we have a descrepency. I suppose there is no way profootballtalk.nbcsports ever made a typo.

The point is they should have made it a point to get a QB when Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace are ur QB's. Delhomme can be serviceable, but won't be around much longer. They fucked up.. shoulda taken Clausen.
