I know a ton about Metal, but I don't know if I'd count as a Metalhead.

For me, doesn't get much better than A.) Operation: Mindcrime, or B.) Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II.

Interesting. I've always preferred the first Keeper of the Seven Keys to the second....even if the music video for the song Halloween was utterly hilarious....in a bad way. But there were, to me, better songs on the first one like Twilight of the Gods and that more ballad-like song right after it.

For the heavier stuff, I like the new Hypocrisy as lot. And you can't go wrong with Sigh's utterly eccentric Imaginary Sonicscape (think that's the name of the album) or their utterly insane Hangman's Hymn.

Some metal appeals to me, but nothing above.

Just listened to Anvil. Metal on Metal. Doesn't get much more metal than that. Count me in as a metal fan

I highly recommend checking out the albums Kezia and Fortress by Protest The Hero.

I am older so I liked the older style metal the most,Anthrax,Overkill,Testament,Megadeath,Iron Maiden. Haven't really kept up with the newer metal but I really do like Mastodon a lot.

Depends on what you would consider Metal, but I dig it.

Critics have always been really fond of Anthrax, for whatever reason, they were never my cup of tea, though they did a really good job I suppose of adding Thrash Metal to the mainstream, and I think their collab with Public Enemy was much more of a real mix of genre than the corporate, forced, Rick Rubin circle jerk of Run D.M.C. and Aerosmith.

But, 19th is a bit too much credit, IMO.

W.A.S.P. @ 71 is a slap in the face to my personal taste, as well. I'd like to see them higher.

Not much into most of these newer bands, what little I've heard of them hasnt impressed me.

One of my friends got me into some heavier stuff.. used to not like it that much but its growing on me.

Behemoth is one I'm really starting to like. I try to avoid the lyrics and some of the music vids tho...they kinda creep me out. Especially Ov Fire and the Void.

I'm not really sure if they're considered metal or w/e, but I'm really getting into some of Rammstein's stuff. Badass band

Rammstein is industrial, not metal per se. It could be considered a subgenre. If you like Rammstein, check out OOMPH!.

I'd love to see them live. I've been watching some vid's of they're stadium concerts and its unbelievable

Due to being bored while watching football, I'm taking that list CC put up and adding my own comments to A NUMBER of those bands, while omitting the names of bands I have nothing to say about for whatever reason!
1. Black Sabbath -- except for those "some guy named Tony Martin is the singer" years, utterly iconic in every sense of the word.
2. Iron Maiden -- my personal favorite metal band.
3. Metallica -- their older stuff went from "raw" to "awesome". Their newer stuff doesn't interest me nearly as much.
4. Judas Priest -- good band, but I burnt out on them, so they're obviously not a fav.
6. Slayer -- personally, I think they're overrated. Reign in Blood is considered iconic, but to me, it's Angel of Death, Raining Blood and six or so songs that are pretty paint-by-numbers. I do perversely enjoy their metal-rap song "Love to Hate" for some reason.
7. Megadeth -- I have to say that "Rust in Peace..." is the most breakneck, aggressive album without death/black elements I've ever heard.
9. Pantera -- to me, overrated. They had some really good songs (especially their more mellow moments), but a lot of their stuff seemed to just be them portraying over-the-top badasses.
10. Death -- pleasantly surprised they were placed so highly. A great death band that was slowly getting more mellow. Their cover of Priest's Painkiller was a testament to Chuck's vocal range. Sadly, he died way too soon.
12. Queensryche -- I agree with Upper that Operation: Mindcrime is an awesome album. Warning and the one between it and Operation also are kickass, but they lost luster after that. Empire was good, but I thought a half-step back and they lost me completely with Promised Land.
13. Dream Theater -- Another of my favorites. They don't have mainstream popularity and don't seem to care about that, as they just continue churning out really long songs where they show off their technical skills.
16. Dio -- another one I really dig. A bit inconsistent as far as quality goes, but the stuff of his that I like, I really, really love.
18. Helloween -- higher than I'd figure. Maybe if you add Kai Hanson's current band, Gamma Ray, to things....
19. Anthrax -- another one that's a bit overrated. They had some very good/great albums, but other than their pop culture factor due to "I'm The Man" and pairing with Public Enemy, there's nothing to really separate them from Overkill, Metal Church or Testament in my mind.
21. Napalm Death -- godfathers of grindcore....I never got into them.
22. Carcass -- Heartworks was an amazing album. Their older stuff had good moments, too......and you could get your medical license for simply being able to decipher their lyrics!
24. Sepultura -- always looked at them as a "what could have been" group. Beneath the Remains, Arise and Chaos A.D. were awesome albums. Roots didn't interest me as much and then Max got booted and their next album, Against was very poor compared to what they'd done before. And then I stopped caring about their new work.
27. Morbid Angel -- Blessed are the Sick is just a great mindfuck with Trey's guitars. Overall, they're kinda pedestrian death, but his guitar-work keeps them above the pack.
28. Tool -- great long-trip driving music for me. I can put one of their CDs in and the next 70 minutes or so will just flow by for me. Some may consider this blasphemy, but I'd consider them the modern-day more-metal version of Pink Floyd.
29. Mayhem -- with few exceptions, none of those original black metal bands really interested me. I give exceptions to the latter works of Immortal and the stuff Varg was doing under the Burzum name while behind bars.
30. Korn -- my first moment of cringing while reading this list.
31. Opeth -- they have the potential to be great, but they're just missing something. I tend to lose interest while listening to a lot of their long....really long songs. They're proficient, but just don't have what it takes to make me want to keep listening.
38. Cannibal Corpse -- I prefer Barnes' work with Six Feet Under, myself. CC!!!!!!!!! was more like Deicide, where albums were loaded with short, monotonous songs with shock value being the selling point (gore for CC!!!!!!!!, blasphemy for Deicide).
39. Testament -- Practice What You Preach was a great album. Others, not quite as good, but with plenty of moments.
40. Faith No More -- they had a decent amount of good stuff, which makes it depressing that Epic is the one and only song they're destined to be remembered for.
41. King Diamond -- NO!
42. Suicidal Tendencies -- I loves me some Suicidal! Lights....Camera....Revolution! is a personal favorite of mine. Mike Muir could alternate between introspective (Alone), comedic (Send Me Your Money, Lovely) and batshit crazy (You Can't Bring Me Down, Go'n Breakdown, Whacked) without batting an eye on that one.
45. Overkill -- they had a few really good albums. Especially Years of Decay and the one right after it.
49. Deicide -- no. They were a mediocre death band that is here just because of the shock value of having an openly blasphemous theme and usually one song an album with a title along the lines of "Fuck Your God". "The Lord's Sedition" (or something like that) off one of their more recent albums was really good, though.
51. At the Gates -- they started the famed "Gothenburg sound" (named after the Swedish city where they were located). Unfortunately, when I think of Gothenburg bands like them, In Flames and Dark Tranquility.....I think of a number of really good songs and a bunch of mediocrity.
56. In Flames -- they have their moments. Humorously, my favorite song by them might be "Metaphor", which isn't really remotely close to being metal, but it is interesting and original.
58. Children of Bodom -- the reason I don't openly laugh at people like Go Fast Sports who look at Bullet for my Valentine or Avenged Sevenfold as great metal bands. CoB are a campy, cookie-cutter version of death metal (like those bands are campy, cookie-cutter versions of other metal bands).....but something about them strikes me as infectiously entertaining.
64. Metal Church -- I really liked their debut album and their first one with their second vocalist. The rest of their stuff I've heard is kinda blah.
66. Type O Negative -- more good driving music. Especially October Rust.
69. My Dying Bride -- I get into these guys although I can understand why people might not, as their singer generally sounds like he's preparing to commit suicide. I own "Like Gods of the Sun" and really love listening to it.
72. Immortal -- they started out pretty standard for BM groups, but got really great with At the Heart of Winter and the album after it.
75. Cradle of Filth -- I like a handful of their songs, but Dani's over-the-top style of screaming annoys me after a while.
76. Ministry -- PSALM 69!!!!!
79. Danzig -- I do really like Lucifuge as an album.
83. Gamma Ray -- I guess this means that Helloween and Gamma Ray weren't combined to give Helloween a more impressive spot in the standings.
87. Pentagram -- I have an album by these guys. If I wanted a Black Sabbath wanna-be in this list, I'd have picked The Obsessed or Cathedral before them.
92. Entombed -- Wolverine Blues has some great stuff, but I always preferred Dismember to them as far as those original Swedish death bands went. As well as one album each by Grave and Desultory.

They are all considered bands with Metal genre as a part of their music.

I did find it depressing that Hypocrisy isn't anywhere on that Top 100 list. One of the best death bands out there and definitely more noteworthy than some on the list, such as Suffocation.

I've seen Rammstein live. Excellent group, excellent entertainers. Much more enjoyable when you understand German.

Nevermore is way to low on that list, i love the dreaming neon black album and i'm not sure that Alice in Chain's belong's on the list they've always been more hard rock than metal to me.Someone mentioned a7x and their cronies Killswitch and BFMV. They are what I call starter metal because alot of metalhead's started listening to these band's before they progressed to metal that doesnt suck. For instance I started out by listening to Korn and Slipknot and look at me now! lol.

Alot of people look down on Anthrax but don't realize just how freaking awesome "Among The Living" was as an album. Easily one of the top 5-6 thrash metal albums of all time.

One thing your going to get when you listen to Behemoth is a healthy dose of "F Religion". I got to meet Nergal at Mayhem Fest this year and it was awesome and their set was friggin brutal! From the opener "Slaves Shall Serve" to the equally epic cover of " I got Erection" it was BRUTAL!!!!

One final one before I go to bed.

Why the hell is cradle of shit on this list? It's like black metal rule number 2 " Don't be Dani Filth"

Dio at 16 is the highest I've seen them rated outside of my own mind.

One I like that I hasn't been listed is Damage Plan.

Thats one thing I've gotten from trying to understand the lyrics. Not really into the anti-religion/black metal idea, but still sounds sweet.
