Is it just a matter of getting used to touching the letters, or is it still annoying for you? I'm debating between a non-data phone and the Droid Incredible. I love everything on the phone except that I keep mis-typing and need to backspace.

You'll get used to it, but if you can, download Swype.

Look it up, it's probably the greatest way to text in the history of mankind.

That looks pretty sweet. I watched some instructional videos on it. Is Swype free on the Droid Incredible?

Droid Incredible or Droid X? That is the question I am facing at the moment. Any input?

I don't have a smart phone yet, but for what it's worth - I've done a healthy amount of research and hands-on testing with all the top smart phones, and the HTC Droid Incredible is what I'm going with... (if I get a smart phone at all)... I love the 6 customizable home pages (or is it 7?), fluidity of the scrolling, threaded text messaging (although it still confuses me a bit), ease of internet browsing with accurate touch screen, weather widgets, and much more. I know many of this you can get in other phones, as well, but I just thought it was all integrated the best on the Droid Incredible. And that's all just the functionality. I hear and read the specs are top-of-the-line, for the most part, too!

Internet tethering is another option I'm looking forward to. It's a month-by-month charge w/ Verizon (no contract), so I can pick and choose when I want to turn it on and turn it off.

Why the Incredible over the X? I can't tell you the few differences between the two, but seems like the X is a bit better.

Also, you don't need to pay for tethering. I think that plan has a 2 gig limit, and you can do it for free with PDAnet or free if you are rooted (wireless tether!!!!). Technically, yes you should pay, but my philosophy is they should charge a flat rate whether you tether or d/l on your droid. I'm averaging maybe 500megs a month on data, so no way I feel I should pay if I ran a few gigs of tethering one month.

Plus, keep your eye out for Sweeterhome launcher, which should be releasing to the public within a month probably. I have technically just 1 home screen, but menu buttons that launch over 14 others from that. My rooted phone pretty much makes the IPhone look like a complete POS.

Haha....Do a search. There was a thread on here a few weeks ago with a link to sign-up for, they send you an email with instructions how to d/l and install. Swype will run on any Android phone. Currently, it's free. I think they plan to try and get a few bucks from either VZW or the handset makers to include it as pre-installed software, otherwise prepare to bend over because it is without doubt one of the top-5 apps out there for android.

Personal preference. I have had bad experiences with Motorola phones in the past and don't want one now. Because of my previous dislike of Motorola phones, I dismissed this phone immediately. However, if this is something that the general public thinks is actually better than the Incredible, I'll consider. Plus, this side-by-side is impressive:

I think I may have to reconsider my initial impressions... :) One thing that I am not sure of, though, is the tethering. I see it has "No" for the Incredible. Verizon is telling me I can tether with it, but I'll have to use a USB cable. Is the X's tethering wireless? (That's what I really want.)

Motorola has definitely turned things around since the launch of the Cliq and Droid. So throw those previous bad experiences out of the window, because Motorola is a different company now.

I've been carrying the X for a week, and the phone is bad ass!

And yes, the X works as a wireless hotspot, connecting up to 5 devices. Not sure of the pricing on it, but it's something like a $20 charge for 2gb of data.

All Android phones can tether through USB (although carriers aren't going to advertise it) through a program in the Android Market called PDAnet.

The X doesn't provide extra features that I need or will use, and some of then sound overrated anyway. I am going with the Incredible for it's sleeker profile (I carry it on my pocket) and the touch screen (don't need the physical keyboard).

I can wireless tether with my Droid, but I think you have to be rooted. Downside is, wireless or USB, I don't believe you can still use the phone for calls or surfing. Good in a pinch (especially for business travelers), but probably not a viable alternative to home internet (not that 3G is fast enough for that, anyway).

I think that's valid. I will probably opt not to have a physical keyboard on my next phone, as well. I'd like the bigger display, but clearly a preference. To me, the added storage and better battery would probably steer me to the X, but like said the differences are pretty marginal. Anyway, I'll probably end-up doing an early upgrade sometime early next year to one of the bad-ass phones coming out at year-end....well, and probably it just won't make sense for me to upgrade to a phone that isn't LTE capable.

Agree HDMI is also overrated. It's not going to stream internet video from your phone like people think, it might do movies recorded with your camera but think it was mostly for hi-res pictures.

I felt like an idiot yesterday when I went into my local Verizon store to check out the Incredible and X. When asked if I needed any help, I responded "Sure. I'm looking for the Droid X." The Verizon employee obviously answered "That doesn't come out until July 15." I wanted to kick myself in the nads. I probably read 10 times yesterday in reviews that it didn't come out until July 15, but for some reason it registered as JUNE 15 in my head, so I thought it was in stores. DUH!

Anyway, I guess it's only a week from today that I need to wait and decide what phone I get.
