Well one way or the other Halladay or or the Reds offense could be considered the difference.
I can imagine battling with Rollins, Victorino, Howard, Werth, Ibanez and finally get to Dane Sardinah (sounds like someone the Reds would hire to be their manager pre-Baker) and taking a pitch or two off...can't do that at GABP.

Another "quality" start by Harang, just enough to keep him in the rotation.

I mean that is literally 4 calls in the last 2 innings that were OBVIOUS balls, that this cocksucker called a strike. I don't know how these guys hold back that frustration..I would have went ape shit on the ump if I were Votto there.

i'm watching the phillies tv feed. when they showed the replay, the announcers hemmed and hawed, and then said it was close and they couldn't tell if it was a ball or strike.

Today is one of those games where...only teams who have "IT" could win. I'm slowly shaking the decade of disappointment and starting to believe...anyone feel the same way?

What a win! Rhodes with the win, Halladay with the complete game loss.
Props to Harang and Bruce.

Absolutely, unfortunately, we still have a few missing pieces in order to contend in the post-season. (bullpen, 1 more starting pitcher)

But with Volquez back and Chapman moving to the bullpen, I bet those 2 will be the answer for that. I would love for us to make a move before the trade deadline to get another bat but I don't know if that will happen. I'd love for us to get an everyday starting CF that bats for average and has speed. Stubbs has potential but K's way too much.

That's true, but as much as I diss Walt sometimes, this isn't his first rodeo. Games like this will force his hand and he has the pieces to get it done. I think that is why he's testing guys like Wood, Chapman and others. Either to showcase them or slowly start moving other guys out.

The hitting isn't the problem though. It would be great to get another bat for depth, but you can't argue with the team leading MLB in runs, HR's, RBI's, hits, AVG and 2nd in OBP, SLG and 4th in OPS. Even with Stubbs, he provides enough running and in CF that you can't afford to lose what he brings because he's the one weak bat. Getting Hanigan back will be big, not only helping Ramon but making the catcher position a threat every night at the plate (it currently isn't with Corky as the backup).
The issue, as others have said, is the rotation. Cueto is good. Leake is good. Arroyo is good. Harang has been fairly steady lately, and Volquez is very good (but how will he respond after only 11 months post-surgery). The thing is, sometimes you need a chance at better than good. An ERA around 4 is great, but that means that consistently you are going to allow 4-5 runs a game, and it's just tough for an offense to sustain that every game when facing the likes of Halladay/Hamels, Cain/Lincecum, Carpenter/Wainwright, etc...in a playoff series or down the stretch of the season.
So regardless of whether it costs you Wood, Heisey and Cozart, or a similar package, to get Cliff Lee as a rental or Dan Haren for 2 years, you do it. If so, this team COULD win the pennant. This team really has it.

Agreed. The rotation is deep but could be deeper. I'd love for them to snag a left handed starter. When was the last time the Reds had a good lefty? I've never been so excited about the Reds. It's nice to see them in the right direction.
