Every time I hear "GOAT" I think of Earl "The Goat" Manigault. He was a streetballer from Harlem, portrayed by Don Cheadle in the movie "Rebound"
dude apparently had crazy leaping abilities.

I believe the story on the jumping was "able to snatch quarters of the top of the backboard"

I always thought it came from Maurice Greene and the tattoo he put on his arm.
"By Tom Weir, USA TODAY
SACRAMENTO — The tattoo on Maurice Greene's shoulder is reminiscent of those psychedelic posters from the 1960s, where one feels obligated to stare and look for the message that's doubtlessly hidden somewhere.
The "GOAT" tattoo on Maurice Greene's right biceps doesn't refer to an animal but to his desire to be the Greatest of All Time.
By Robert Deutsch, USA TODAY
Such is the case with the lion tattoo that adorns this roaring sprinter born under the sign of Leo. Down in the lion's beard are the wavy letters that require a double take to decipher: GOAT.
No, the lion tattoo is not a zoologically mixed metaphor. This GOAT is an acronym Greene is attempting to take by the horns: Greatest of All Time.
"That's what I'm trying to prove this year," Greene says. "The lion is the king of the jungle, and the track is my jungle."..."
