Clinton was very, very smart, and very deeply flawed. The Monica thing aside, his womanizing was disturbing, and ultimately it neutered (pun intended) feminists who championed him. You can't treat your wife like dirt and maintain credibility - even Hillary didn't deserve that. He also burned a lot of bridges with his fundraising base as a result and p.o.'ed a lot of powerful Democrat families in the NYC area.

I don't really think Clinton was lacking too much in common sense, other than maybe thinking that having intern-course wouldn't turn into a scandal. For anything job-related, though, he seemed to be pretty grounded.believer;713207 wrote:First, Clinton may have been one of our smarter modern era presidents, but his lack of common sense (and decency) prevented him from running "the most ethical administration in American history." As far as having the "most ethical administration in American history" ... eh ... if the "ethics" are related to issues outside the office responsibilities, I don't really judge the job as president by them.
Now, if you're referring to the pre-office Whitewater scandal ... that's a whole new can of worms.

IMO, Clinton was bright, but his strength was his "street smarts" and intuition. Carter and Bam are both intellectually brilliant, but both have the political acumen and leadership skills of a proverbial fencepost.ptown_trojans_1;712066 wrote:Ehh, by all accounts Clinton was. But, I get your point. Carter was just simply overwhelmed and lacked decisive leadership.
Interesting enough, the same could be argued in some cases with Obama.
The whole PJ Crowley firing is another example.

Smuggling in interns for oval office blow jobs....and not getting caught for years....while the old lady was in the other end of the house......shows that he was a crafty little devil indeed.fish82;713246 wrote:IMO, Clinton was bright, but his strength was his "street smarts" and intuition. Ok, few quick points.
1. Anyone that ever says, "...in history" or "...of all time." when talking about Presidents in the last 40 years has no idea what they are talking about. The Presidents of the 19th century outside of Lincoln, Jackson, Jefferson, and Madison were garbage and often considered the worst/ weakest. Also, there were President was John Quincy Adams who got jack done at all due to a Congress that did nothing. There was also Polk and Pierce and others who were really ineffective that pales in comparison to today. Oh, yeah then there is Grant who has one of the most corrupt Presidencies and Johnson, who got impeached.
2. Saying Obama is the weakest makes no sense in comparison to Carter.
3. Finally, doesn't this whole notion of Obama is weak contradict the way right conservative view that Obama is destroying America or plotting to destroy the country? Which is it? The radical liberal who has a plot to undermine the conservative values in this country through some masterfully plan, or the weakest President in history which can't do anything?

Being a weak and ineffectual leader can destroy a country very quickly -- and I would consider Obama both weak and ineffectual, for the most part. Aside from bullying through ObamaCare and the Porkulous packages (which were really more about Congress and its abilities than Obama's), he hasn't done much.
His US apology tour was weak, to say the least.
He's not addressing perhaps the most dangerous threat to our way of life -- the growing deficit. In fact, he's mostly ignoring it (or lying about it) while focusing on things much less critical.
He has shown zero leadership skills on the economy so far, and the economy has been mostly in the tank.
So yes, a leader can be weak and destroy a country quite easily. He can even be weak and do what the right wing nutjobs think he's doing, by simply providing no MORAL leadership...although that's not something I'm concerned about.

Couple things. 1. The President is not my moral compass. So Clinton shouldn't be criticized for being human. 2. Polk was one of the few great 19th century presidents. We wouldn't be singing from sea to shining sea without him. 3. Andrew Jackson was not a great president. He was egomaniacal idiot that used the common man to destroy the countrys economy
