It might not be the greatest thing in the world in a literal sense, but it's 10x's the sport in our country that soccer is. You have far less soccer diehards than you do football die hards. Not to mention, I watch about every sport you can watch, and I can't after several years of watching about 8-10 soccer games a year, tell you why some of the penalties in soccer are penalties, and what exactly the rules are...that's not the case with football. I would be willing to bet pretty confidently that the vast majority of Americans either KNOW or KNEW at one point in their life most of the rules for football...you can't say that about Americans and soccer.
