alot of different reasons why children are not vaccinated, but the efforts of Dr. Dan Wakefield and Jenny McCarthy cost lives.

You would be amazed at the (otherwise) intelligent people who knowingly expose their own children to great (and unnecessary) risks because of misinformation that's out there.

The primary boogieman with childhood immunizations is the belief (not supported by any credible evidence or study) that there is a great risk the child may end up being autistic or suffer some other dreadful complication.

Yes, there are complications from immunizations, but the overwhelming majority of them are minor and treatable. A minuscule percentage of cases end up being serious, possibly even resulting in death. But the odds are so greatly in favor of children staying healthier with these immunizations that any gambler would run to Vegas if he was given them for his favorite games of chance.

My father had polio when he was a child.

I remember my mom and dad loading all of us in the car in the early 60's and taking us to receive our polio vaccines at a local church.

Get your kids vaccinated. The consequences are far riskier than the vaccines themselves.

So you know how they say that our life expectancy is going down? I personally believe a lot of that has to do with blogs. People will have an ailment, have a distrust for doctors and pharmacies and try to fix themselves. It's the same way in my gf's field of veterinary medicine. Every day she comes home with at least 1 or 2 examples of someone who has killed their pet or almost killed their pet because of having a distrust for vets and just going online and trying to fix the animal themselves.

A lot of people berate the WHO and the CDC for 'overblowing" the H1N1 threat...but there is no way to know whether the mass vaccinations prevented an epidemic. The county health officer in the article implies something similar, when he talks about the threat of Hib being low when almost everybody is vaccinated...not only for those who got the vaccine but for the few who didn't because the route of disease transmission is cut off. However, as larger segments of the population go unvaccinated, disease pathways make their way in.

vaccinations are conscientiously refused because there are two generations now that have no knowledge of polio.
two generations now that do not remember that German measles during pregnancy causes deafness and birth defects,
two generations now that do not remember that measles could be lethal.
tetanus is almost unheard of because of immunization.
I can guarantee you that your paralyzed uncle in 1949 would have been happy to have had a vaccine.

the non-immunized pseudo-intellentsia survive because .............the common-sense mainstay of the US GETS immunized.

If we did not confer upon them "herd immunity", their exposure risk would be much higher.
they have the LUXURY of declining immunization because we all get them.
