Lee thru 2 with 15 more pitches. Looks like he's got Bruce in his back pocket, striking him out on three pitches all thigh high fastballs on the outside corner. He must be saving his breaking ball for Bruce in succeeding ABs. Why throw it the first AB when Bruce goes that easy?

Cueto barely gets thru the 2nd with no runs, leaving the bases loaded on two walks and a hit for 45 pitches in two innings, while Lee has 28.

Miller, Phillips, and Votto crush the ball in the 3rd, and Cabrera hits it on the screws, but its 3 outs and a double, and no runs for the Reds.

Cueto Ks Bradley swinging for the 2nd time to end the third 0-0. I thought maybe Bradley was going to go ballistic again, but he catches himself when he's mad at himself, but not when he's mad at someone else. Both pitchers have allowed three baserunners, with Lee using 42 pitches and Cueto 55.

they just mentioned how Dusty Baker tracks pitching counts. Of course Chris Welsh felt it was necessary to debunk the "myth" that Dusty ruined some arms a few years back, just like Welsh always does.

Dusty shouldn't get 100% of the blame for any of the cases, but it is interesting.

-Kerry Wood
-Mark Pryor
-Edinson Volquez

Lets face it. Dusty gets blamed because the Cubs are lovable and he ruined 2 fantastic arms that came through there. However, if you really examine the numbers, Dusty has no worse of a track record than anyone else.

Yeah I agree. His track record had some serious name recognition for the common fan. Managers blow guys arms out that nobody has heard of, and nobody cares. But everybody knew who Wood and Pryor were.

I just think it's funny that Welsh tries to say Dusty had nothing to do with it even though he was the guy setting the rotation and taking pitchers out of the game.

That 2nd AB for Bruce was four more fastballs, the first way out of the zone just to show Bruce, then two called strikes, and then a swing for the 3rd. Will he show anything but the fastball the 3rd AB?

Three fasballs to Bruce the 3rd AB. A foul and then a pop to CF for the 3rd out. Maybe something other than the fastball on the 4th AB if it comes to that. Lee showing the best pitch in baseball is a well placed fastball.

Lee thru 8 on 99 pitches(12.4 avg per inning), while Cueto didn't get thru 6 on 115 pitches. Lee due to face the meat of the Reds order in the 9th. Two would have to reach for him to face Bruce again, and Lee would probably be out of the game by then.

I thought Dusty wanted to give Rhodes as much rest as he could. I think yesterday and today would have been two prime situations to not use him!

Brantley is correct. Against Lee in this park you need to play for three hits to score a run on line drives in fron t of the OF and ground balls thru the INF. Votto starts the 9th off just that way, but Rolen pops up.

Lee with a 109 pitch complete game gem for a 1-0 win with 6 hits, no BB, no double play, 33 batters faced, performance that knocks the Reds out of first place. The story of the game was the Reds outfielders difficulty in seeing the ball in the air.

Tough loss last night. You had to figure Cliff Lee was going to get his. He's one of the best pitchers in the league. Hopefully they can steal one tonight. They have another tough matchup in Hernandez.

It was a tough loss because it was the best Reds' pitching performance in a month and they still got the L.
