I could care less who pitches, comes up, goes down, starts, pitches in relief or gets paid what. Decisions should be made based on this not based on money. If a guy is the most ready, use him in whatever role helps the team. Worrying about whether someone is on the 40-man or whether a guy should start or come out of the pen isn't worth not going all out to try to make the playoffs.

The way MLB is and this team is built, there is no guarantee a Dusty Baker team will even be in contention again. So go for it now.

When I say that, I mean they shouldn't hesitate to call up talented pitchers because they aren't 100% ready.

They did it with Chris Heisey. Brought him up for a bench role when they never even planned on using him this year.

They did it with Johnny Cueto a few years ago. A guy who got straight out of AA ball. Mike Leake came up without any minor league experience.

Point being, if the pen sucks, and someone in AAA can provide help, bring them up. I never said trade away the farm or even cut useful pieces on the 40-man roster, but last I checked, Aroldis Chapman, Travis Wood, Matt Maloney, Jared Burton and Bill Bray were all on the 40-man roster. Yet they bring up a guy who was getting shelled at AA claiming those other guys "aren't ready." I guess we will see...but my point was this isn't the time to start letting those factors determine the decision. They should be a factor but something has to be said for a year where the Reds are contending and the division in so winnable.

I would have no problem seeing Aroldis Chapman in the bullpen.

Ok I agree with this 100%. Your comment about not worrying about the 40man means they would be bringing up someone else other than the guys you mentioned or trading for someone. If they did that they would have to cut a player. Keeping the right 40 man roster is maybe the most important thing to a successful small market team.

Chapman is not going to be used in the pen ever. He's a potential #1 starter, they aren't going to mess with that.

Hopefully Bray will be ready soon, he is coming off many major injuries so I don't have a problem with them taking it slow in Louisville.

Check out 2006 and especially his postseason numbers that year....then check out the following years as a starter.....not sure there is anyone the Reds could trade straight up for him.....actually I'm pretty sure there isn't.

I agree. I don't think they should mess with Chapman. Keep him starting. It should be mentioned that David Price pitched in the 'pen for the Rays during their playoff run a few years back and he seems to be fine
