As badly as you try to down play this, it is even worse. I used to play softball with several members of the Columbus PD. Keep in mind that they are also Buckeye fans…While they wouldn’t compromise their job or the immediate safety of others they will let players off the hook. One estimated that only 1/3 of the time they deal with OSU players that it gets any press. Cops will let them off for things others would be taken in for (ie marijuana poss, public intox etc.). Campus police are even worse. Yes, it goes on everywhere, but it is a bigger problem at OSU then most.

and sleeper, you can bet the farm that unlike Worthington, Frankie 'Hammered' will be sitting out a game or two.

I'd be reasonably certain that not all members of the Columbus Police Department are Buckeye fans. In fact and based on my personal experience many of them aren't even college football fans. While your softball buddies may have been derelict in the performance of their duties. not all or most of the department acts in such a manner.

The difference is the trend declining for OSU and increasing (nearly 30 since 2005 under Meyer) at Florida. Spin it all you want but it's a bigger problem at UF than you or your softball buddies want to admit.

I'm not spinning anything. I never said Florida has less arrests than OSU. It happens everywhere, athlete or not. Just giving sleeper troll tit for tat. He's probably blowing Nate Williams for $20. and will reply to this thread later.

Ohio State is far from perfect and we have plenty of our own problems. Not sure why sleeper is ignoring that. However the one thing I will give OSU credit for is that they usually get rid of the major trouble makers. Meyer is pretty forgiving, and even more forgiving if the player is good.

jordo, Meyer is not more forgiving. He has kicked two 5* DT's off the team. J.Jenkins was jumped by 4 guys who tried to take his necklace. He defended himself and the thugs ran, so the cop arrested the one who he could catch. Newton, Rickerson, Davis, Hornsby, Wilson, Atkins, Demps (no relation to Jeff), were all kicked off the team. Cunningham threw some paper cups and got arrested. Joiner had permission from the lot owner to get the car. Carl Johnson's case was dropped and it was proven the ex-gf was lying and making up accusations. Zook gets some credit for half of these guys, count how the trend is dwindling since Meyer has 4 years of his players on campus, just like it dropped for Tressel. Both great coaches, both great programs. I'm sure a few of OSU's arrests were bogus too.

btw, I did play softball back in the 80's it was big. USSSA had World Series here.

vball you jarred some good times from my forgotten memories. Steele's, Easton, were "pro" teams, and local all stars (not me) played for Oyster Pub and Miller High Life. Shortly after Joe Carter won the world series for Toronto, his brother from Tampa was playing softball here. He had a damn nice Cadillac.

anyways back to the subject, I'm hearing Meyer will dismiss Hammond from the team. 1st offense or not, he was over twice the legal limit. This spring Meyer told the team everyone is accountable for everyone. They will be running extra this week.

Kudos to Meyer for laying down some punishment. I was disappointed with the way Tressel handled the past OVIs.

However, a dismissal is too extreme imo. Sit him for a few games, make him run, etc to learn from his mistake at his young age. A dismissal my send him into a tailspin into his adult life. He is extremely lucky no one was injured.
