Stephen A. Smith is a hack... like most sports "reporters" associated with ESPN.

I was just going to say SAS life is a race issue...

On the subject at hand I tend to disagree (shocker!). Harper played by the rules that MLB has in place. He didn't leave high school for millions of dollars immediately like in other cases that Smith mentioned. He still played one year of college ball like basketball players. I know it isn't a rule in the MLB to play in college but whats stopping a truly gifted basketball player from going the same route. Hell a guy could get his GED and play at an open enrollment University and not even have to go the Juco route.

The basketball player from San Diego left high school two years early and went to play pro in Europe and he failed miserably. Yet I remember about the same mix of good/bad articles from columnist as when Harper declared to do the same. Hell, Brandon Jennings basically pioneered this practice when he couldn't get into college and I don't remember hearing that much negative unless you were a Arizona Wildcat fan.

I wouldn't be upset if Stephen A. Smith was hit by a car and broke his leg tomorrow.

His argument was so retarded it isnt worth talking about. I would have disagreed completely with whatever he came up with regardng the "race issue" at hand. But what he talks about is just so stupid...I cant even finish this though.

Recipe for success...be black, loud, opinionated, play sports at a low level at a subpar school, get a journalism degree, and make everything about race. See Stephen A Smith and Jason Whitlock.

Stephen A Smith is a dullard who tries to act "hard" to make up for his lack of intelligence and charisma. His "race" schtick got him his job, not his journalistic prowess, so he is milking it for all it's worth. Thanks again ESPN, great job!

What did ESPN do? He wrote this article for the Philly Inquirer. Sure ESPN put him on the radio and TV, but they yanked him pretty quickly in all situations. The guy knows his NBA and should stick to that.

ESPN gave him his big national break, introducing America to his BS antics

He's right. It's all the racists that were bashing college players for leaving early like Kosta Koufos and BJ...err...Byron...err...Bye-bye..Mullens. It didn't have anything to do with the fact that they suck. I do remember a lot of noise about Greg Oden and Mike Conley leaving early, though. Most of it was..."Damn, I can't believe how good those guys really were. I wish they would stay, but they would be fools not to leave." Maybe we're just more progressive here in the Bible Belt?

He is completely far off and is totally full of shit. He got the exact same coverage that Lebron had coming out of high school. Harper gets attention because the kid is good and I for one am glad we can hear about someone other than a pitcher for awhile come through the minors.

So, if 300 calling you a douche makes this site minor league, what do your retorts concerning people being in NAMBLA or having AIDS do to this place? Put it at coach-pitch? I mean, it's REALLY hypocritical to deliver lowbrow insults at others one day and then give some sort of "you are the problem" line another day.
