The thing I was wondering about this - I heard it takes 9 votes to disband the conference. That is a nice parting gift, especially for Missouri for example. They haven't gotten their invite from the Big Ten, so they vote "no", grab a piece of the cash when the rest of the conference bolts, and THEN end up in the Big Ten.

I see there are apx. 25 kids from Texas on the Nebraska roster. That's a huge recruiting base that I think they will have a hard time maintaining. I could be wrong but I just don't see as many Texas kids going to Nebraska for an opportunity to play in the Big Ten compared to the Pac 10 to play more regional games.

If the things were happening immediately (i.e. Nebraska playing in the Big Ten in the 2010-2011 season) then yes, that's possible. However, since it will be a year or two before any of these changes actually happen a vote to disband won't happen right away, so by the time a vote happens, at least one of the remaining four teams (most likely Kansas) will have already found a post-breakup home, so the vote would carry. Also, if the four remaining teams were to vote "no" on disbanding, I'm not sure what they would do. Clearly they would need to add more teams to keep the conference together, and most of the money they would be getting from the other teams is TV and bowl money. Obviously with only four teams they wouldn't fulfill all of their bowl obligations or their TV contract. My guess is that if only say 3-5 teams were leaving, then yes, the rest could vote to stay together and add other teams like TCU. However, with eight teams leaving, I don't see how the four teams left would all vote no on disbanding and hope to accomplish anything.

Nebraska had no problem recruiting from Texas and Florida before any Texas Teams made it into the B12. I'm sure it might go down, but big time players want to play for big teams. Texas has so many star HS athletes that the schools down there can't even recruit them all.

I tell ya, what's funny is your post. What does ND's record have to do with anything? If that's the case, why did the Big 10 go after them yet again? It's all about money, something ND doesn't need. AGAIN, ND will be just fine, as I said before, they could lose every game for the next 10 years and the fanbase would still be there.

Its sad but in the last 6 or 7 years TCU has been better than Nebraska. Nebraska just has more money to offer. TCU has been really good lately but they are one of a bunch of Division 1 football playing schools in Texas. Piss on traditional college football conferences, you got money, you get in a nice league.

Reminds me of the great golfer who couldn't win the Country Club Championship because he couldnt afford the membership to play in the tournament.

Right, TCU has won some games in a crappy league. Remember when they tried to play with the big boys? They last won a league title in 1959. From then until 1995 when they stepped down to a more appropriate level, their top conference finish was 2nd - twice (1965, 1994). They finished 8th or 9th TWELVE times. They had SEVEN winning records and the most wins in one season was 8 - ONCE. All this in 35 years.

If Indiana went to the MAC and won a couple conference titles, would you feel as though the world had treated them unfairly for not seeing them as a "big boy"?

It is more like a junior high kid beating up a couple classmates and claiming to be tougher than anyone in high school.

Here is what you are getting with Nebraska right now. From 2002 until this past season they hadn't beaten a Top 20 team and they had plenty of opprtunities. Last year, they beat a decimated #20 Oklahoma squad. The only other BCS school with that distinction other than Nebraska was Duke.

So I guess Nebraska is pulling a TCU and stepping down a notch?

ND fans are more concerned with money and having a big fan base than they are winning bowl games or beating top competition. Their record over the past 20 years clearly reflects that, it must be nice to include all the Catholic people in the country as ND fans, because we all know that's 100% true.

They beat #20 Michigan in the 2005 season.

ND will join the Big Ten after Nebraska & Mizzou accept their invites,and either Rutgers,Syracuse or Pitt (pick two) accept theirs---JMO

Actually, last season Nebraska beat #24 Missouri as well. In 2006 they beat #24 Texas A&M. In 2005 they beat #23 Iowa State. In 2003 they beat #24 Oklahoma State.

In that same timeframe, TCU beat five ranked teams - 3 of which were from their own conference (who again, win a lot of games against really bad teams).

No, Nebraska is not stepping down a level at all by going to the Big Ten. TCU could not win in a major conference, so they went to a second rate conference and have competed well. Thats great for them, but don't make too much out of it. Nebraska competed in a big time conference over the same 35 or so years and won a lot of both conference and national titles. They have been "decent" more recently. At the level they play, that is still better than TCU and if they switched places, people would have complained about how Nebraska DIDN'T deserve to be in the title game ever because they never played anyone......and TCU would've continued to flounder around the middle to bottom of the pack.

That's not true. TCU had no choice when Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Baylor left the SWC for the Big 12 and Arkansas left for the SEC. Winning in a major conference had nothing to do with it, no other major conference was available for them to join.

Why would Arkansas leave the SEC? TCU makes sense because they aren't in a major conference and they have a long history with many Big 12 teams frome their days in the SWC.

Because it's been known for a long time that a lot of higher ups at ARK do not feel comfortable in the SEC and feel like they don't fit.

Maybe so, but if what's happening right now with teams bolting for other conferences is any indication.........everything is driven by money. Surely Arkansas would take a step back in that regard by leaving for the Big 12.

But it's not going to happen, because the Big 12 is dismantling and will most likely merge with the MWC. If the "Texas Guild" had not called a meeting that basically set the wheels in motion for Colarado to jump at the Pac10 invite, then I am betting that Ark would have been the first team invited to the Big 12. Definitely ahead of TCU.

They might have got an invite but I doubt they would accept it because they would lose tons of cash.

Nobody knows. It's hard to speculate, as all the rumors have been for the past few YEARS is that the Ark admin is extremely unhappy in the SEC.
