The fact remains, the ship was at high seas, illegal to board in international waters, and we do not know the extend of which the Israelis hailed the vessel, fired warning shots, or tried to divert it.

They had little authority to board the vessel and even then, did they expect to be greeted in open arms? I know I would have fought back if my ship was being taken over by soldiers coming down from choppers.

Also, the blockade is in direct violation of the UN Security Council Resolution that ended the actions in Gaza last year.

Whether you agree with Hamas or not is irrelevant. The fact was it was a boat, in high seas, with no WMD, no drugs, no slaves and no pirates on board. The UN said the blockade was illegal, so Israel had no right to board the vessel.

They should have simply waited until it was in their waters, then board "for security reasons", which would have been legal.

Yes, there is a humanitarian crisis. Yes, Hamas is in control of Gaza, but they were elected in in 2006.
Also, sometimes you have to break down and start to talk with Hamas. It makes no sense not to start a dialogue with Hamas. Why? Look at the Troubles in Ireland, granted it did take a unification of Shin Fein. But, it was when the UK started to move toward discussions that peace was started.

Hamas is a reality in the area. Ignoring and trying to beat them to a pulp will not work. Israel tried and failed.

But I also highly doubt these "humanitarian aid" folks are benevolent peace-loving flower children. Right or wrong I suspect the Israelis chose to do this thing with some justification. Again I'm waiting until the facts reveal the truth before rendering judgment.

I never take anything goverment states a truthful ..but in this situation I was just reporting a different opinion source.
I'm not a big fan of provide aid to anything after a peroid of time ...seem there alway a secondary motive once the relief is established

Some how I suspect if it were any other country in the world that boarded a ship illegally in international waters like a gang of Somali pirates and proceeded to execute an American citizen in the middle of a bungled raid there would be outrage from coast to coast as well as some sort of punitive measures taken by the government.

I understand that this thread is about Israel's actions in response to the flotilla. But in case anyone is unaware, Egypt has also had a blockade on Gaza, thought that was temporarily lifted following the flotilla incident. (not sure if this has been posted yet).

Not trying to condone anyone's actions. Just wanted to add that the Gaza situation is more complicated than Israel vs. Palestine.

I'm thinking that Egypt hasn't been mentioned because they didn't illegally attack a ship in international waters? Just a thought....

Had this ship been intercepted in Israel waters, I'd have less of an issue with it. Also, I think the deaths could have been avoided.

Let's be honest here, while technically the 19 year old adult was an American citizen, his parents were Turkish and he was Turkish and had lived in Turkey since he was 2 years old. He had about as much ties to America as any illegal immigrant does, maybe even less (other than he was actually legal).
