This is how it all went down

Cop: License and registration please.

Me: No problem, here you are officer.

Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?

Me: Actually, no. I know I wasn't speeding, so idk.

Cop: Well you have a license plate light out.... and when you passed me, I thought I smelled burning marijuana.

LOL!

Me: (Laughing) Really now.

Cop: Is there anything illegal in the car?

Me: Just my friend here (points to friend)... (apparently officer was NOT amused)

Cop: I have probable cause to search this vehicle. Do you consent to a search of your person and vehicle?

Me: Actually I don't. I have nothing to hide, but you have no reason to suspect anything illegal is in this vehicle sir.

Cop: Why did I smell pot when you drove past me?

Me: Couldn't tell you. Seeing as how I had my windows up when I passed, I highly doubt you smelt anything from me. You can look in my ashtray, it's full of change. I don't even own a lighter. And I'm not stupid enough to use drugs in the middle of the town on Memorial Day Weekend. Can I have my license back please?

He then goes back to his car, runs my information, comes back.

Cop: You need to get the light fixed within 48 hours. Have a good night.

As I pull away, I can't help but laugh at this douche. I have all of the respect in the world for the police, but this guy was trying to be a hard ass, and that's just not cool. Anyone else have run ins with retarded officers?

At least he wasn't a TOTAL douche. He could have made you get out and searched your car...but yeah, that's all you have to do. Have some basic understanding of the law and call him on his BS and he'll look like a douche.

I have absolutely no respect for small town cops. I bunch of overpaid and overweight pricks there simply to give the locals tickets so they can pay the bills. I have a great amount of respect for city police, as they don't normally deal with traffic bullshit because they have real crime, but the douchebags wearing the uniform in small towns are typically a bunch of hacks.

There should almost be two separate categories, the police that operate in the dangerous cities putting their lives on the line, and the fuckers behind the radar guns enjoying their sinecures.

I'm sure if he could have made him get out so he could search..he would have. "I smelled pot as your car went by"...isn't going to cut it as far as probable cause goes. He was just trying to intimidate him into letting him search his car, IMO.

But yeah...we have a cop in Logan that fucks with me every chance he gets. Rewind 12 YEARS AGO! The cop lived beside us...I was 17 at the time..and the cops wife just left him for another WOMAN. Within' that same week..he pulls me over. Tried to say I was squealing my tires. Mind you..I had a 1988 Pontiac 6000 with a 2.9L engine in it. Yeah, that thing isn't going to do that if I'd tried! So I told the cop to not harass me just b/c he couldn't please his wife, simply b/c he was just being a dick about everything. Yeah, that didn't go over so well. He got pissed of course. Ended up giving me a ticket. Then it pissed him off even more when I fought it in court and won. So now whenever he sees me in town driving around, he follows me. He's pulled me over about 5 or 6 times since then. For no reason most of the times. I just chuckle at him every time he walks up to the window. So yeah, I know about those turd cops which you speak of. Lol

That truly is the only logical explanation.

I had a something happen to me like that in Canfield. Only I was removed from the car and placed in handcuffs for mine and his safety. He also pulled over the only black guy we had working wih us twice the same day.

I got pulled over for the dreaded license plate light at 3 am going to work while driving through a small town near here. He was certainly looking for a DUI arrest.

License and registration and step out of the car
Are you carryin' a weapon on you? I know a lot of you are
I ain't steppin' out of shit, all my papers legit
Well do you mind if I look around the car a little bit?

Well my glove compartment is locked, so is the trunk in the back
And I know my rights, so you gon' need a warrant for that
Aren't you sharp as a tack, you should try out
For lawyer or somethin', somebody important or somethin'

Child I ain't passed the bar, but I know a little bit
Enough that you won't illegally search my shit
Well we'll see how smart you are when the canine comes
I got 99 problems, but a bitch ain't one, hit me

We have all certainly heard about police officers who work in those small towns around Ohio and other States who demonstrate that "attitude" and appear to be reincarnations of Barney Fife on a bad day. I would have to say however, that in certain circumstances, the attitude of the officer is enhanced by the reaction of the person being pulled over. Some folks automatically react with disdain and disrespect to the "small town" policeman, expecting it to be your typical "speed trap" situation where the police are there to write huge and unjust tickets for ridiculously insignificant offenses, and sometimes, just to be an ass. I always try to treat police the same way regardless if it's a town of 200, or downtown Los Angeles. Speeding is speeding and squealing tires is squealing tires no matter where you are and I just don't get excited about it. If I'm speeding, I take the ticket, tell the officer I'll be more careful the next time, and be on my way. Of course, I've only had two tickets in 47 years and generally own cars that are incapable of speeding, and that certainly helps!

No, we'd just rather have the cops fuck off and quit acting like they're doing everyone a favor by catching the criminals who go 35 in a 25.

It was probably one of those really cool cops that just sit behind trees or buildings waiting for someone to go 30 in a 25 and then peel out and go 50 for 2 seconds to catch the guy that is literally 20 feet ahead of him.

most small towns have low crime because they keep up after the traffic violations. criminals pay attention just like you and know "Small Town, Ohio" is strict on traffic crime and will avoid that area.

having lived in a small town, i believe it. and after almost having my little sister hit by a car speeding through a 25mph area when we were younger, i am glad cops are more strict when people speed through neighborhoods and school zones.
